Good Historical Record
Makes a nice coffee table book. Information on the iconic Sears Roebuck houses is quite interesting. You can see how home design has evolved over time.

Didn’t know a catalog could be so interesting.
Enjoyed looking at and reading about all the Sears homes as they were described in the original Sears catalog. Many classic designs that would look good if built today.

Sears Modern homes, 1913
I grew up in a Sears Roebuck home of this period, and we think we've identified the model, though the local carpenter who put it together did make some minor changes in layout. It came in a boxcar, neighbors helped my grandparents bring it to the farm 3 1/2 miles from town by wagon and it was stored in the covered runway of the corn crib till construction was finished. My family lived in it until my widowed mother moved 25 miles into the county seat where she worked in the area hospital, after we children went to college. It deteriorated with no one living there, and was eventually torn down to replace a barn on a neighbor's farm that had been lost to fire...he also made a handsome garage addition to his home with the last of the lumber..

Fun slice of life from the past!
This is a fun book to thumb through! its amazing how many homes you will recognize from your community! There are a lot of Sears homes where you live. The floor plans are interesting and can give good ideas for a new home if you want to go retro and cozy. The descriptions of each design are cute to read and they list communities where the homes have been sold! you may see the name of your town there. I highly recement this book to anyone interested in nostalgia of how things were, or fans of classic architecture!

Great book
This is a wonderful resource for homes of the Era. There are not many of these kit homes left in Michigan.

Great collection of House Plans and supporting drawings and details
Great collection of drawings, elevations, and floor plans of the original "factory-built" style of house. I have been searching for the model that I believe my house to have been (built in 1909) but haven't found it yet - a few close calls. It is great fun to look at the plans and see how people lived in the early 1900s and how inexpensively (in our 2016 dollars) a house that included lovely wood trim and exterior detailing could be built. It is sad that these house kits are no longer available.
