Bear Can't Sleep (The Bear Books)

Let me start off by saying that we LOVE the bear books by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman. They are adorable and so beautifully illustrated and fun to read. They are a staple at our house. HOWEVER, this new one is basically Bear Snores On, just awake instead of asleep. The illustrations are very similar, the phrases are reused, the characters say the same things, etc. It’s super cute if you don’t read both books all the time, but if I was being picky, I’d say I want a new book to be a completely new story with new pictures and new words and phrases. Our kids definitely still like it. Just wanted to give other parents a heads up.

The Bear books rule. They are winners, hands down. This one is especially apt for bedtime. Poor Bear, no matter what he does, he “still can’t sleep! His animal friends wander in bit by bit, and they are all sympathetic and have different remedies, but no luck with snoozing. Finally Bear himself offers to tell his pals a story, and guess what happens at the end?Illustrator Chapman supplies soft, friendly pictures that make Bear’s cave warm and inviting. And who knew animals could have such a variety of expressions of concern and puzzlement? This is a book your youngsters will want you to read over and over again, and will likely chime each time you come to the key phrase. Sounds like fun! We love the bear books. They are cute stories with beautiful illustrations. This book did not meet expectations. It's just like bear snores on, only bear is awake and his friends are sleeping. Not worth having if you already have bear snores on. That being said, I hope Karma keeps writing because we enjoy her books.

My 2 and 4 year olds both love the bear books. Our 4 year old has been struggling with falling asleep and this seemed like a great addition to our library. It did not disappoint. Yes, as other reviews say, it is very similar to other bear books, but isn't that the beauty of it? My children don't care that it is similar. In fact, I think that's why they like it!

If you aren't reading these books to your kids, you are missing out! There's a whole series "Bear Snores On", "Bear Feels Sick", "Bear's New Friend" and they are all awesome. They are lyrical and colorful. We love the the characters. Every night my daughter comes out with one of the Bear books and something else to read before bed. These are books that will last a lifetime in their hearts.

We love the rhyme scheme of the Bear books - this collection is one that I’m willing to read again and again. Bear Can’t Sleep is another adorable story with Bear’s friends coming to the rescue. This was a gift for my 6-year-old, but my older children enjoy these books as well. Beautiful illustrations and theme!

I purchased this for my 4 year old grandson, who loves Bear and his friends. We are collecting the entire series...we began with board books when he was quite tiny and now are purchasing the hardcovers. These are lovely stories of animal friends, with beautiful illustrations by Jane Chapman. Having seen Bear snore on and stay up for Christmas, we now see Bear unable to sleep when he should be hibernating. A great seasonal, non-holiday selection.

My little one loves this book, along with all the other “Bear” books by Karma Wilson. The stories are so sweet hearted and the illustrations are superb. These are some of our favorite books to read together.

These bear books are wonderful. My one year old loves them, but they're good for all ages. They're well written and very well illustrated. This means you can enjoy reading them to your youngster time and again. We have purchased the entire collection and are eager for the next book.My only complaint (minor) is this isn't the same physical size as the majority of the books, but it's worth purchasing all the same.
