Here's hoping Michael Connelly is written for a long time to come.
This is by far Michael Connelly' best writing as Harry Bosch has now become a PI. I've often wondered how Bosch would be phased out of Connelly's stories. Now I know the answer. "He won't" Thank you Michael Connelly for keeping Harry Bosh with us.

Too Good
I love the Bosch novels. As a former police officer Michael Connelly connects to the internal circuitry that motivates police officers to do what they do. Thanks MC.

Kudos on New Direction With Variety of Cases and Intrigue...Looking Forward to Expanded Series!
Got to say, I was excited when I realized that both of Connelly's magnificent characters were characters in his latest book! He's apparently done it before, but I hadn't had the chance to read them... Bosch is my favorite and has a long, wonderful series, but the Lincoln Lawyer--a lawyer that conducts his business out of his Lincoln car--is unique and calls to our hearts of wanting to do a job, exactly the way we want to! Cool, right? Both of the story lines in this novel are exceptional--one much more heartwarming than the other, a search for a serial killer. Harry handles each in his usual fact-by-fact-then-act fashion which I've loved since I first met him years ago. He's not exactly a rogue cop, more one who sees no value in dealing with bureaucracy, time-consuming procedures, et. al., but still has a heart that drew him in to law enforcement and has never let go. At the same time, he's dealing with losing his daughter to college and determinedly tries to reach out to her, trying for a meal during his times in her area for the job...hating that texts seem to be the only way they are communicating these days...In fact, he's working for free with a small town, San Fernando Police Department, because they are short of money and personnel, but also just to keep him in law enforcement, even with no pay. He has been assigned cold cases, but soon pulls together that they might be dealing with a potential serial sex offender... This case becomes especially troublesome when they realize that the officer who was working the case with Harry had disappeared! She had decided to go alone to a house search and would have been dead if Bosch had not quickly pulled facts from which action took place! At the same time, he has been sent for a secret PI case by a multi-billionaire elderly man who is looking backward and forward, knowing that everything he's worked for will transfer into greedy hands. He hires Bosch to secretly search for a possible heir from a short love affair which his parents destroyed. But she had been pregnant at the time...It was a wonderful bit of serendipity that I saw this latest book, given the change of direction for future novels...and here is one fan who is anxious to see more of this type of book... The hunt for the missing heir led Bosch into an investigation that crossed the years, first, discovering the answer, only to have Bosch continue until he responded to the total wishes of his client... Bosch's investigative skills have never been more brilliant with this extremely cold case!On the way, however, his client died and was later declared murdered... I was floored when Bosch single-handedly solved that case to surprise...and frustrate...the assigned investigators! I loved it!It is only at the end that we discover the reason for the book's title. I can only say that I would have loved to actually see the sculpture created to support the title...A truly impressive and perfect ending to the novel...Upping the complexity of his books with two different but complete story lines sets readers up for the potential expansion of our favorite character, Bosch, getting into anything and everything in the future... By the end of this book, he has accepted a temporary paying job while his partner is on medical leave...It seems like a perfect place for a man like Bosch whose only desire is to serve the public... By the way, did you know Amazon has a Bosch series?!Kudos to Connelly! His new direction in this novel should prove to engender this unbelievably talented author into a revival and expansion that will keep his wonderful character fresh, responsive to change, and perhaps even attacking some of the issues faced in today's world. Surely, you read Michael Connelly???!!!GABixlerReviews

RICK “SHAQ” GOLDSTEIN SAYS: HIERONYMUS BOSCH HANDLES 2 CASES… 1 PUBLIC… 1 PRIVATE… REALISTIC VIET NAM TIE IN!
Retired former LAPD cop Harry (Hieronymous) Bosh… after a fiery up- in- flames retirement lawsuit… against the LAPD… splits his time by donating portions of his time and expertise at no charge to the San Fernando Police Department (potential readers… please re-read the just mentioned police department name… it is NOT San Francisco… it IS San Fernando… a small town in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles…. even though Harry purposefully identifies himself as a cop for SFPD when trying to garner help or favor with government and private citizens… hoping they’ll think he’s with the much more powerful San Francisco Police Department.)… and then Harry also is a Private Investigator… who only takes cases through word of mouth or recommendations. This well written tale finds Harry simultaneously handling a big private case… when he’s hired by billionaire octogenarian Whitney Vance… who is hanging on to life by a thread… to find out if a long… long… ago relationship resulted in an heir… the lifelong bachelor didn’t know if he had… while… concurrently on his SFPD gig (That’s San Fernando) a serial rapist… code named “The Screen Cutter”… is not only on the loose… but hitting close to home. As Bosch tries to juggle both cases… on one hand… not letting anyone know about the Vance case… due to a confidentiality agreement that he signed restricting him from discussing it with anyone… and on the other hand… juggling the fact that he shouldn’t be using any of his SFPD access to delve into any data he needs to find on the Vance case.As I am an Honorably Discharged Viet Nam Era veteran… I found it not only intriguing… but so… directly on target… as to the authenticity… and emotional “flash-back”… punch… that the author injects both in Bosch as a Viet Nam Veteran… and especially in combination… with the fact that one of the main leads (to protect any possible even microscopic spoilers… I won’t mention in which case)… who was a KIA Viet Nam Veteran. Perhaps my favorite… touching scene… was when Harry was following up leads that lead to the KIA veteran and wound up in the attic of the Vet’s sister’s house… by himself… going through the forty-five-year-plus-old Vet’s foot locker… along with a package the Vet sent home before his death. The feelings and memories… of Bosch… that continued… unabated… for an indefinable… amount of time… as Harry’s thoughts served as a way to explain to inexperienced readers… part of what Viet Nam was like… and how parts can never leave you. The author excelled in creating a literary environment… where at times I forgot I was reading a book… and my memories floated me away. I don’t believe there’s a better compliment that can be given to an author. The action… and intrigue… of two active cases… in concert… never skip a beat… and I’ve found that to be a rare success in the many books I have read over the years.I would like to end this review with a question to other readers that I’m really curious to get some other viewpoints. In almost half-a-century of lovingly and enthusiastically reading one book after another… I always had a personal observation that I never saw a movie as good as a book I had read. (Seeing a movie AFTER I read the book.) The fact that I had never read a Harry Bosch book before… but had seen the two seasons of Bosch on Amazon Prime… so that led me into this book… already viewing Harry based on the cable TV Harry… so I already had a vision of him. I really kind of enjoyed that feeling. I’d be curious about anyone else’s experience in either of the combinations of their introduction to Bosch via TV then book… or vice-versa.P.S. A book dedicated to Vince Scully has to be special… and the author had me drooling… when he had Harry stop for a meal at my favorite all-time deli in Los Angeles (I moved away thirty-five-years ago) Art’s in Studio City… yummmm!

Another absolutely fantastic crime thriller featuring Harry Bosch and Mickey Haller.
If you love crime fiction but have never read any of the novels featuring Harry Bosch, then 'The Wrong Side of Goodbye' would be a good one with which to start as you do not need to know much about Harry Bosch's past life to thoroughly enjoy this novel. But be aware that if you enjoy it then you'll probably want to read the earlier books in the series and then you'll discover how addictive they are!If you have read other books in the series, then this one may initially strike you as being a little different. The plot has fewer twists and turns than in previous novels, but it still retains all the other elements we fans of the series enjoy; Harry's dogged determination to solve a case, his ability to think outside the box based on his experiences as well as his creativity, his concern for the 'victim' and ensuring that justice is served (etc.). There is plenty of action as well as the added bonus of the involvement of his half-brother, the lawyer Mickey Haller (who has featured in other novels by Michael Connelly). In this novel Harry is involved in two investigations. The first involves a request from a childless billionaire who is close to death but who believes he may have sired a child when he was a young man. He hires Harry to investigate but on the proviso that Harry doesn't tell anyone else about this investigation or his findings. The search for a possible heir appears impossible at first but as Harry starts to make progress in his search the level of suspense and menace in this story-line increases dramatically. The second investigation involves Harry's part time job as a member of the San Fernando Police Department. Harry is asked to help the team find a serial rapist. This story-line is more of an action thriller. Both story-lines however follow a traditional police procedural approach, with the narratives following Harry's investigations. So if you enjoy police procedural crime thrillers, this book should definitely not disappoint. It is, like all Michael Connelly's books, easy to read and contains enough action and suspense to keep you turning the pages to find out what happens next and how it will end.

Bosch back to best
As usual, heavy on detail and description. I like reading how Harry does his research, how he works things out. I enjoyed Harry working with his brother and that the story demonstrates that they are clearly different people with a different outlook on life-and that worked well. I felt you could feel Harry's strength of character very clearly in several sequences throughout the book. Enjoyed several different threads to this book- a good read.

Top Author
The 21st book in the Harry Bosch series by my favourite author Michael Connelly. Having read and thoroughly enjoyed every book this talented author has ever written it is no surprise that I jump at the chance to read any new books. I really enjoy reading book series as it allows you to really get to know the main characters and you get a really good experience from not only the plot but all the sub plots etc. This is typical of that situation and I loved every page.In this latest book Harry is running with two investigations, a rape case under his guise of a part time officer with the San Fernando Police Department and as a PI he's been asked by a very wealthy 85 year old man to try to find an heir. While running the two cases side by side the book is well paced and Connelly manages to keep both cases interesting, and well paced.A great writing style and I love how the author feeds hints to the reader, certainly in the running for my favourite read of 2017.I highly recommend this book, series and the author to any avid reader of police procedural books and crime thrillers in general.

Superb as always
I have read all the Harry Bosch books in the series and enjoyed everyone immensely. Sometimes it seems that the book is slow in starting, or a story subject of little interest, don't give up you will not be disappointed. Michael's knowledge of the Law and procedures in applying it is second to none. For me I find it sad that his use of the English Language is Americanised but I guess many of his readers are American. One of the worst for me is the word 'Gotten', there is of course no such word in correct English. The storyline more than makes up for this. I recommend reading the books in the correct order, although they are predominately stand alone books, there is a degree of follow on.

Bosch does it again!
Connelly's usual standard. (That Bosch just goes on and on - in fact, it's entertaining to see how Connelly keeps him active.)Two contemporaneous cases: one provides the action, the other the suspense. The ending was a little more low key than usual but I really liked it. And there were a few unexpected twists. If you like Connelly, you'll like this. (You may not give it 5 stars, like me, but I think you'll enjoy it.)
