Ballistic Oil
Some things just work...and they work so well they stand the test of time and become a sort of icon. Okay, so Ballistol isn't really an icon for most people, but it HAS stood the test of over a hundred years and is arguably the best all-around lubricant/protectant available. Ballistol ("Ballistic" + "Oil") was invented by a German chemist at the turn of the 20th century for the German army to clean, lube, and protect mechanical/metal parts, woods, and leather. That's one of its great strengths: You can use it on darn near anything (except suede) and it will lube and protect it. Yep, wood, leather, metal, even most plastic. And as a huge bonus, its biodegradable, non-toxic to the environment, and safe to the touch. Pretty much, as long as you don't drink it or pour it in your eyeball you're good to go. I could previously say I used Ballistol mainly to clean and lube firearms (which it works fantastic for, by the way), but having experience with it for a long while now, I use it all the time on almost everything. I'm constantly finding great uses for it -- uses that make positive practical impact on whatever I'm using it on. The stuff is just great. Just a quick sidenote on using Ballistol on firearms: You don't really need ANYTHING else...I mean nada. It cleans, lubricates, and protects, all in one pop. You can chuck the variety of solvents and lubes and get the task done faster and better with Ballistol. Also, I recommend getting the non-aerosolized version because you can simply get a common spray bottle trigger head from anywhere and then you have the option of spray or pour. Like I said, some things just work, period, and Ballistol has become a staple product around my home. I absolutely recommend it. Edit: Several people have asked about the smell. That's not exactly a trick question but requires a brief explanation. The compound itself is pungent, no doubt about it. Whether it "stinks" or not depends a lot on personal opinion, but its definitely a strong smell that lingers in the room if you use lots of it (for example, soaking components and heavy cleaning/lube of firearms that need extra heavy duty attention). BUT...in terms of regular cleaning and normal maintenance and use, the smell is not an issue and fades completely within a couple of hours or so. The bottom line: the smell will not impede your use of Ballsitol and poses no issues significant enough to affect your decision to use it or not use it.

Great product that works very well!
I love this stuff. Been using for over twenty years! It has kept my firearms, and other equipment, tools, and knives rust free and in good working order. It's water soluble, non-toxic, and eco friendly. Great lubricatant for all sorts of items. It is also great for cleaning black powder residue. The ratios to do that are included on the side of the can. A little goes a long way, and it will last a long time. I have found it has a 'creeping' ability to get into nooks and crannies, and will loosen up stiff parts over a few days. It has an ability to remove copper fouling and is about as good as other products but it is not specifically made for that. Good price and availabilty from amazon. You won't find it on Department store shelves, so I order mine from Amazon. Always arrives on time and in good condition.

Recommended lube for air guns and more - does the job!
Good lube for air rifles and such. Works both inside and out. Won't harm seals or O-ring and cleans barrels too.

Most Amazing Product Ever
This formula was invented around WWI and it is so amazing because it will help you with so many things. I first put it on a leather belt that was getting worn, darkened it a little, but made it soft and like new. So, I tried it on some leather boots, it made them look so much better. It coats the things you put it on to make it last longer. What the heck, I put it on my rubber boots, made them better but didn't change looks much. I have put it on my wooden floor, makes it look new again, my old dresser, just about anything that could use a facelift or more durability. I have ordered more and will never be without it now! Give it a try and see for yourself. I am not compensated in any way for this review.

Great lubricant but IT SMELLS REALLY BAD!!!
This is an excellent lubricant/preservative. Great for guns and any metal item that needs lubrication or rust prevention. I've even used it on pull chain type light fixtures that had a stuck chain. It also works great at preserving leather and wood. But be warned...it stinks. To me, it smells so bad that it literally triggers a gag reflex. ๐คข๐คฎ I would advise using it outdoors and don't get it on your clothes or you will stink as well. This could be an individual thing as I have heard some people say they actually like the smell of it, but that is not the case for me. Be forwarned.

Hmm
I'll give it 4 stars for now as I'm sure it is just as anything else. Just wanted to try it. Haven't gotten a chance to try on dirty gun yet. It lubed well cleans and doesn't leave a film. It smells like jagermeister and then sometimes I guess I can smell feet. But it doesn't linger afterwards. My biggest complaint is the bottle. 16oz is a lot of oil. I attached a spray but it didn't work well. It would not mist. I can't find a dropper cap in the store for the life of me. Not even on a bottle of alcohol. I wonder if break free is good on wood... It's nice knwokg it's non toxic. But I never had a problem with toxic stuff before. If anything I'll throw the spray back on and use it to clean my bicycle chain and cassette. Won't go to waste. I think everything is everything. There is nothing "different" out there. Works well on my guitars too.

Messy but I still recommend
This stuff is great it spreads quickly leaving a light covering. It appears to work its way through carbon deposits and loosening them. Doesnโt appear to dry into sticky clumps. As it warms up however it will seep out through every available seam or opening. Often ending up on grips and forearms

Works great
Smells like what you might expect wet wool with the sheep to smell like. Works fantastic on most leathers but the smell needs management. I highly recommend the product just not fond of odor.

Great stuff
This is an excellent product for cleaning and lubrcating guns or other items with metal or moving parts. It's very good for cleaning guns after firing corrosive ammo, using 1 part Ballistol with 10 parts water. Does a superb job.
