Bush Furniture Somerset 71" L Shaped Computer Desk with Hutch in Hansen Cherry

I was dissapointed to find out there is not one single piece of real wood. It is entirely made up of press board with a printout of wood grain glued to the press board. I was hoping there would be some real wood to this or at least some veneering. There is a spot where it has begun to seperate, I hope this is not a sign of things to come...It came with 15+ bags of hardware, however when you are performing some of the instruction steps you will find that you need 4 screws from one bag, 6 from another bag.. etc.. This is very tedious since the bags are not labeled and there are many different screws that look alike, but are just slightly different. I suspect this is why other reviews say it took 6-8 hrs to construct.One of the major dissapointments is that the backing of the main hutch is made out of cardboard and it was folded in half (lengthwise) in the packing. When assembled there is a big crease right across the middle. I was hoping to mount my monitor to the back of the hutch, but there is no way the cardboard would support it.The legs do not look like match any part of this desk (you can see it in the pictures). Not sure why they choose to make these out of plastic and an off color that does not match the rese of this unit.The cabinet in the lower right of the picture is just a big open space, There are holes drilled on the inside that look like they were designed to hold shelfs, but there are none.After putting this all together it does look ok and it is big, I am just concerned about how the fiberboard will hold up. They obviously took some quality shortcuts with this unit, ie. fiberboard, plastic legs, and cardboard backing. I would give this 2 1/2 stars... just ok, there are probably better options.

I researched extensively to find a couple of matching desks for a home office. The biggest issue I had with the desks is trying to find out that was a reasonable price but wasn't ridiculously cheap. I have found (with 2-3 other "cheap" desks) that you tend to get what you pay for. You sometimes even still get poor quality when you pay a great deal. As such, I was nervous to buy this desk but I have generally had great luck following reviews on Amazon to buy products so I decided to try it.Thoughts:1. I love the desk! Forgive the poor quality pictures (it's not a ringing endorsement of the ipad's camera) but I hope you can see how nice they look. They were much better lookin that I felt the promotion picture showed.2. I love that they are on feet! I honestly didn't even think about it when I bought the desks but the ability to reach outlets behind the desk, sneak cords underneath to the surge protector/plug in other electronics, not cover up the heating duct has been a huge plus to this collection! The feet have 8 screws in each of them so they are extremely sturdy as well.3. I love having the back to the desk! The decorator in me loved to put a few knick knacks up on the shelves and be able to use the frosted cabinets to hide less attractive items I still needed to have close in the office.4. The drawers were deeper than I expected. I have found that they are often shallow or the side only goes 1/2 way up but I have not had any issues with this desk.Cons:1. If you do get the back on the desk it can be pretty dark. I found that I needed to buy 3 touch lights and get a relatively strong desk lamp to really light up the desk. The back can block an overhead light.2. The wood laminate is thinner than I would have hoped. Again, all desks (even relatively expensive desks) seem to have this issue but I was hoping for more. I found that it was easily remidied by getting a furniture marker in a matching color, but I had hoped for more.Overall, I love the desks! Our neighbors saw them and bought a set for themselves because they said they loved the look and functionality of the desks. I am very pleased and would buy them again.

Very quick delivery! The hutch arrived with the three long boards broken, due to the way it was packed by the manufacturer (Bush). Contacted Bush who quickly sent the replacement parts. The picture is backwards from the actual desk, which did cause some problems when planning the layout of the office, but it did work out.The drawers had to have the pre-drilled holes re-drilled because the drawers did not line up correctly and left a overhang. Cymax was very friendly and responsive to this issue.Edit: 10/9/15: The desktop does mar easily and was scratched by the keyboard and other items on the desk. We are looking in getting glass or plexiglass to cover it and protect it further.

This is a very nice desk. It is very solid desk. I would say though if you have issues or trouble putting things like this together the directions are a little lacking. The hardware is not very well labeled either. It will take you some time to put it together. If you do not mind this, as I did not, it is well worth it. For the price that you are paying for this desk it is well worth it. I was very much debating on this desk wondering if it was going to be a sturdy desk or not, I was really hoping for at this price, but I have put it together and I am glad that I made this purchase. If you are on the fence about this and wondering it the quality is OK or if it is heavy duty enough I will tell you that you should just get this desk as it is of good quality.

I usually never have problems with Bush products but this one was a total nightmare. None of the holes were predrilled in the bottom of the 2 desktop pieces so I had to use my own wood screws to assemble the desk since the provided equipment would not work without the predrilled holes present.It will probably be more sturdy this way anyways but it was a pain and I will think twice before I order from them again.
