Lego HARRY POTTER YRS1-4 XB360

This new game in the Lego series is great fun for Harry Potter fans, both adults and children alike. The gameplay is similar to the previous titles---Star Wars, Batman, Indiana Jones---but this setting and characters will probably appeal to girls more than the other games. No worries, there is still plenty of destruction and mayhem for the less gentle gamers. The 4 levels correspond to the 'years' at Hogwarts (or the movies, if you prefer). The game is extremely faithful to the storyline and there are great mini-movies interspliced with the actual gameplay. If you are familiar with the books or films, you will get a lot of enjoyment out of recognizing both characters and situations. Once you have played through the 4 levels, you have the ability to return to specific scenes to search for other items or just wander around Hogwarts looking for fun. A fun feature for the kids was the ability to "design" their own character by selecting each component of a Lego minifigure from a 'closet.' There is a LOT to be done and found in this game, including 10 short bonus levels. Success on the various levels is dependent on the learning and application of the appropriate spells; different people have different spell abilities as well. 100% completion, as in the other Lego games, will prove to be challenging yet FUN. We played this on xBox 360 and has no issues with freezing or crashes. Not sure what the other reviewers might be experiencing but perhaps it is related to their console instead of the actual game...?

Lego Harry Potter is the latest installment in the Lego series of games. This is easily the most in depth of any of the prior games. There's so many things to do and a plethora of collectibles. While the Lego games aren't known for their graphical prowess, HP does appear to have a graphical update. If you're familiar with past Lego games, you'll be perfectly at home here. All the good aspects from prior games are here to include a level editor. The one thing I would like to mention is that this game isn't quite as friendly to the extremely young audience. Some puzzles could be a little more complicated due to the use of different spells for certain situations. A minor issue, but one some parents may want to be aware of. The co-op play allows each player to move off on their own and not be confined to sharing the screen. The game dynamically changes the screen so each player can move about of their own free will. Also, as of writing this review, online co-op isn't active in the game. A patch is in the works and is supposed to be released soon. Overall, this is a definite buy if you are either a fan of the Lego games or Harry Potter. Countless hours of fun and great replay value due to the level editor and the number of collectibles. This game was interesting to play. I love the lightness of the Lego games. No matter how serious the game is supposed to be, some Lego person's head pops off or something equally amusing happens to lighten the mood. What I liked in particular to this game, was how interactive the player has to be. It's not just button pressing. In fact, you really only use your directional pad in this game, everything else is pretty much the stylus. Whether you have to draw a spell to cast it, or trace the cogs to open something, or play some simply game of memory, you have to be paying attention and have your stylus in hand. This fact made the game fun and way more interesting than most other games I've played. I also liked how to collect all the things needed to "master" a level you had to play as characters other than Harry, Hermoine, and Ron. There are instances where the player will need to be a villain to accomplish something. I wouldn't suggest this game to anyone without the patience to remember the spells, the higher in level you go, the faster you have to draw the casting designs, which can be tedious if you're in a fight. All in all, this is a fun game, and even with going back to previous years and levels over and over to make sure I'd gotten True Wizard, all the golden hats, and all the cards in each stage, it took me less than a month to beat it with only playing an hour or two a day.

Finally finished the main story line, it took me about 9 hours but I did try to go back and get more stuff in the middle and I got stuck a couple of times so I think if you just wanted to run through the story line you could probably do it in about 6 hours. I must say I really like this game, when I was at work I couldn't wait to go back home to get farther in the game. I suspect it I will take me 6 hours to find everything in the game through the free play because after you beat it you have everyone you need to lock everything in another run through of the game. FYI as you play through the game the sections get longer and longer, some sections took me 20-30 minutes to get through near the end of the game, where the first couple of sections only took 5-10 minutes to get through. Tips: - Don't try to go back before you beat the game, because a lot of key spells you need to do get items in the free play are learned in the last book. So it's pretty much a waste of time to go back before you beat the game. - Don't worry about getting true wizard the first time through, because you will have to go back anyways to get other items and once you get some special red blocks near the end of the story play through it will be easy peasy to get true wizard. - There are a couple of glitches in the game that you will have to quit the level you are on and restart which is another reason why I don't suggest true wizard or trying to get everything in the first/story play because you might have to restart the level, and when you are nearing the end of the game it is a total bummer because you have to replay really long levels to get back to where it glitches sometimes. - some of the glitches I have experienced - there are probably more glitch places but these are just ones I ran into - when you're battling the spider and when you destroy the eggs if you move away from the spider before hitting it with the block, you basically have to restart because the spider moves down and no new eggs reappear. - during the hogsmeade section I accidently ran into one of the wooding looking railings too fast and it got my character stuck in the railing... it was weird I couldn't do anything to get the character out of the railing, so I restarted. Even with the glitches and having to restart very long levels it was a pretty enjoyable game, and I look forward to playing I through to get all the items I missed the first time. It might be too simple for hard core gamers though, if you are a causal gamer that likes harry potter, I would highly suggest this game. If you have never read the books or watched this movies, you will not understand what's going on because this game only highlights parts of the story, it doesn't tell you the story at all.

My family owns ALL of the Lego games, and by far, Lego Harry Potter years 1-4 is the superstar! tt games has obviously been working to perfect their product and design throughout Lego Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Batman, and Indiana Jones II, and all that work has paid off in Harry Potter. The puzzles, the characters, the challenges, and the adventures all exceed our expectations of a tt game, which are rather high. Plus the graphics are outstanding; the details, right down to the itty, bitty splashes the water droplets make as they fall to the campus grounds outside Hagrid's hut, are completely amazing and immerse you in Harry's fantastical world. Additionally, my family plays as a trio - my husband, myself and our tween son - and unlike other games, where the player who must watch and get antsy to have a controller in his/her hands, Lego Harry Potter is a thrill to simply watch, which makes it truly group/family play friendly. That, I believe, is a HUGE accomplishment for the game designers, creating a "social" video game for a variety of ages. I highly anticipate the "patch" that is going to make this game xbox live friendly, although I did expect that to be happening sooner. Buy this game; you will NOT be disappointed!

The Hogwarts in this game is the Hogwarts imagined in the film series (from Prisoner of Azkaban onward, at least). Fans of the movies will love seeing those settings reimagined in Lego. The gameplay is lots of fun and generally pretty easy - if you die, you get to try again. Having also played this on the Nintendo DS, I will say that I miss the interactivity when casting spells. It would be great is this was Kinect compatible, but wrist movements may be too hard to track. I think the Wii is the ideal platform for this game. The XBox version is still pretty awesome, with all of the best scenes from the first four installments. I love that you can use Polyjuice Potion to change your character and access different abilities, and the fact that there is still plenty to be done after you complete the main storyline means hours of Harry Potter-themed enjoyment. And who among us doesn't love that?

Like others, I have been waiting for this game to be released since last year. We have a Wii but my main platform choice is DS. I have to say this Lego game is pretty good now that I have played it for a few days. My only real complaint is that unlike the previous Lego DS games you CANNOT use the buttons on the right to perform any of the spells like you could in the Lego Star Wars and Indiana Jones games to perform stunts, punch, etc. For this game you must use the stylus because of how the "spells" are performed. I found it a little annoying at first, but now it seems completely natural. And since you need the stylus out to do any of the spells you find it is easier to "guide" Harry or whoever around the game instead of using the directional keys to walk your character around like in the previous games. I can see this being where the dizzy feeling can occur until you get used it. I also agree about the sensitivity in using the stylus and either changing characters or doing the spinning stun thing in error time after time.

To be honest I was getting sick of the Lego games. It was the same formula applied to each theme with little variation. Lego Harry Potter changed that and improved greatly on the design. Unlike early games that often had the players fighting small waves of bad guys this game focused almost exclusively on the puzzle solving. Not only that, the puzzle solving was often very clever. Both my daughter and I could play the game and discuss how to solve the puzzle or make it through a certain point and we weren't being punished by a timer nor were we being hounded by a non-stop flow of enemies. She is young enough that the challenge of solving the puzzles gives her a good mental workout but the physical requirements of using the controller to precisely fight enemies is a little difficult. This game was perfect for her. Another change that makes the game very family friendly is how the camera is handled. Similar to Lego Indiana Jones 2, the camera will separate into a split screen style when one player moves too far from the other. This more or less handles one of the frustrations of many of the earlier games where one player could move far enough on the screen that they would pull another player into a pit to their death. Overall I would happily recommend Lego Harry Potter to anyone who either: likes the Lego series, is a Harry Potter fan, or will be playing with younger children. It does a wonderful job serving all those groups.
