Becker
cannot wait to complete to full set of 5 series. One of the best comedy series ever. What a shame one or two of the cast got too big for their boots and caused it to be cancelled.

"OK, Here's The Thing"
John Becker is back for yet another dose of Becker, a comedy about a doctor in the Bronx who can be angry and narcissistic. He works with crazy Linda, who makes all sorts of blunders and Margaret, who usually looks after Becker and keeps him on the straight and narrow. In his free time, he eats at the diner and annoys Reggie and Jake, who have to listen to his observations, his aspirations and what he hates the most. They all have to put up with greasy Bob, a loner who really just grinds everyone's teeth, and he fantasises about Reggie being his lover. Some of the best episodes in season 2 include the one where Linda leaves boxes all over the office, as Reggie studies about rats in mazes; Linda taking in Bob as a guest while he finds his feet; John falling in love with his doctor and the one where John finds his old friend Chuck isn't quite how he remembered him. This is the best series of Becker, the interaction of Jake, Bob and Reggie is much better and we get an insight into their lives - as well as Linda and Margaret. We also find out a lot about John and his past, how he annoyed people to dramatic proportions, but we also see his caring side, and how he really is a good GP and how he will go that extra mile if pushed. We also find a lot out about Reggie's past, and there are some really sad episodes - like when we find out how Jake becomes blind, and the story behind why Lewis hates John. I was really glad that Bob had a full time role in this, as his cheeky and selfishness was funny, plus his comments about things really do make good moments.Sadly this DVD doesn't reflect the goodness of the series - it's highly compressed - 24 episodes onto 3 disks is a bit much, and the fact the quality's only just better than the TV editions I saw is sad and quite shocking. At least the 2.0 mix is good and clear, but doesn't really add more than what I saw on satellite TV, which begs the question about why anyone would want to buy this? Mainly because it's a good show, and it's nice to slip it on when you have had a bad day. There are no commentaries at all, which really annoyed me, I wanted more insight from Andy Ackerman or Ted Danson himself - no none of that - at least you do get subtitling, or close captions as they call them in America.Bought this mainly because the UK editions are taking forever to surface, but this is not the best presentation these episodes should have got, it's a pity CBS are not being more serious about the releases, and I really can't see it being better for the UK market, as usually we just get more languages and that's about it. This reminds me of the King Of Queens fiasco.Worth getting for the entertainment side, otherwise these are poor DVDs and really is an insult to Becker, and these funny episodes which deserved better output.MUST try better CBS!
