Sudoku Variations (Sudoku Variations Books)

I was used to the standard Sudoku, so this was a real challenge. There are quite a few variations of Sudoku and some of them took me a couple of hours to solve. I think the most unusual and hardest was the Sudoku with no number hints - - just some "greater than" and lesser than" symbols in some of the cells. Wow - vry difficult.Recommended for those who want a serious challenge.

Excellent variety!

I bought Volume II first, and found the variety of puzzles very interesting, and the level of difficulty just about right for me. In this first volume (the one with no volume umber), I found many of the puzzles much too difficult, and I've been doing sudoku and other puzzles for many years. I would not recommend this collection for novices. :

I got tired of vanilla Sudoku early on and went on a quest to find something "more." I did find magazines that first introduced me to "variants" and a series, now three, from Conceptis Puzzles which are very well done. I've seen many books by DJAPE and found this one about to be published and bought it. I am very excited by this product as it has 75 variants, two of each type. They include:Diagonal, Jigsaw + Jigsaw Combination, Odd/Even, Greater/Less, Consecutive, Non-consecutive, Windoku aka Hyper, Killer Sudoku + Zero Killer + Killer with +-*/ operators, Tridoku, Straights, Outside, Overlapping Puzzles: Flower, Ring, TwoDuko, Double, Triple, Sudoku in various sizes: 6x6, 8x8, 9x9, 10x10, 12x12, 16x16, and combinations of those variations! Instructions for each at the beginning of the book.Of the ones I've never done before "Outside" has been an interesting and challenging type for me as it's almost reverse logic, you figure out where a number doesn't go to lead you to where it does go. There are quite a few types and/or sizes I've never done before and I find 150 puzzles a great bargain for the price. It'll take me a while to do all these although I must say I am doing as many as I can every day!The difficulty levels are broken down into categories: Easy, Cool, Thinker, Brain, and IQ. I will check out more of DJAPE books for these type of variations. Highly recommended for those who want VARIATIONS! This is definitely the book for that!I've given this 4 stars due to the level difficulties, most are hard or complex and take a long time to do. So if I'm in the mood for something short and sweet, there isn't much to choose from. The instructions for some of the variants are not easy to understand, although there is a website for more information available. There are earlier books by this author so maybe I should have started off with one of them rather than this one.

I am not a novice Sudoku player, and have always enjoyed Djape's Samurai Sudoku puzzles in my newspaper. The puzzles in this book, while different, are just too hard, even at the lower levels of difficulty. It took me 18 puzzles before I finally was able to complete one. Not fun.

So many different variations that I have never played before

I love Djape's Sudoku books, and this one is no exception. It has a great variety of puzzles, several of each type, each of different levels of difficulty. Buyers should be aware that I found the levels of difficulty to be harder than the levels indicated on each puzzle. That aside, the puzzles are fun, interesting, and challenging!

Some very challenging puzzles here, along with some that are easier. After doing Sudoku for years, it is great to test myself with these "variations".

Great if you like some variation and get bored of pages and pages of 9x9 grids. Good quality paper and plenty of puzzles to keep you going for awhile.

Hier hat sich Djape eine neue Latte gesetzt. Das Buch bereitet auch Fortgeschrittenen Spaß, obwohl es eigentlich relativ einfach ist. Man muss ständig umdenken.

This book actually has excellent puzzles. The problem is that the puzzles are so small, with the individual cells so incredibly tiny, that you can barely work with them. If the puzzle size were larger, this would be a great book. However, to work with them fairly easily, you'd have to photocopy them to be a larger size.

I've had this book for a few months and am still happily engaged in trying out the new sudoku variations. I have enjoyed it so much more than the limited puzzles available on most high streets.
