Wonderful, heartwarming story
Wonderful, heartwarming story. Reads aloud very well. Beautiful cover illustration. Some of the other illustrations are a little odd. But all in all a good purchase.

For anyone who has a wild child they have loved deeply
This is one of those books that can be either read one with a smile and nod and tossed aside, or the kind of book that will touch your heart forever. For me, this is one of my new favorite books. It is about a family who finds a baby in a tumbleweed and decides to take her home. As the littlest-of-all girl describes her, "She's a wild-all-over baby." They try to do various activities with her (reading, eating, sleeping, etc.) and she throws wildness into every one of them. But when the family decides whether or not to put her back, each family member (except the littlest-of-all girl) lists a reason why helping tame this wild child will make THEM a better, stronger, smarter, more capable person. For anyone who has or has had a wild child who you love deeply, this is the book for you. To help you remember that love crosses those wild boundaries, and that it makes all of us better even in our exasperation! My kids (4, 6, 8) love it but they don't understand why I cry at the end every time.

It's a cute book with a sweet message. Not sure children will be particularly interested
It's a cute book with a sweet message. Not sure children will be particularly interested, but as an adult I enjoyed reading it.

We live out in the desert. A 4 year old boy and 6 year old girl = loved it.It has to be read at least twice every time.Very whimsical, very down-to-earth, very creative and unique. The book's description hits it right on the nose for me.What my kids love: the illustrations, the fun names, the wild things that the tumbleweed baby does, the patience and care that the siblings display. How no matter what, they will not give up on the baby. We discuss the feelings that the youngest sibling has with accepting the baby in the family. It is not conventionally "pretty" as far as illustrations go, but it is very expressive and beautiful in its own way.

Wonderful book!
I found this book very engaging with wonderful illustrations. I have shared this with numerous children (including class groups) and they have all been enthralled. It is sometimes difficult to find folklore-type literature to share with children. I also think that the children DO understand the message of trying to help everyone fit in and that we are not so different. One of the great finds of this year.

Not what it was cracked up to be
The illustrations run the gamut from whimsical to ugly (mostly the people). The text is great but it ends much too abruptly, needing a couple more pages of text to make the current last page rational.
