General and Madame de Lafayette: Partners in Liberty's Cause in the American and French Revolutions

I had no comprehension of the importance of the life of General Lafayette outside of his participation in the American Revolution until I read this book. He left quite an extensive written record despite being somewhat of an intellectual light weight. But one has to admire in the end his high minded idealism for the advancement of mankind and his willingness to fight for and suffer terribly for his principles. He was a great Frenchman and a great American patriot.

This was the first book I read about Lafayette, after only watching a short documentary about him.This book was very easy to read, the only bit of confusion I got from it was I had a hard time following all the different french names.The book starts off talking about his early life and goes on until his death. It talks about his roles in the American and French Revolutions, and discusses the life he lead and a few of the people it.Over all it was a very informative and touching book. I got teary eyed when reading about his wife death and at his death.Anything interested in Lafayette would be doing themselves a favor my reading this book. It really helps you to understand what Lafayette's life must have been like, and the emotions behind it.

This book offers an ecomopassing version of, not only Gilbert and Adrienne Lafayette, but of the French Revolution. The author has the great charm of packing a lot of information into his sentences, plus several chapters end with short (never too-short) additional information titled "Of More Than Passing Interest."If you're interested in Lafayette and the essential roles he played in both the American and French revolutions, as well as his great friendship with George Washington, this book will inform you in a very newsy sort of way that isn't trite, and add richly to what you already know. In addition, the book itself is well made with a cloth cover--rarely seen anymore. Plus there are illustrations. Great book.

An old film, but highly informative story of my hero!

Very readable story of the effects of Lafayette on the American Revolution.

Well written and informative. The narrative was clear, concise and easy to follow...which is a job in itself considering the subject. Viva LaFayette!

I cannot say enough about this fascinating book. It resulted in my visiting the Marquis' grave in Paris and arranging to have a new flagpole placed there, on which a new American flag is installed each July 4 as it has benn since the Marquis' death.

This is a very easy to read book that has basic facts about General Lafayette and his wife. They lived through some changing times and performed heroically.
