HORMELL dinners are delicious. Well worth the money they are fresh and Hormel has been in business for a long time very well established company. I have had many of dinners from other companies, but Hormel is super and I will recommend this dinner to you.

Disappointing meat and taste not as good as pictured. Their meatloaf is worth buying but this more expensive beef is not as good in my opinion,

I'm pretty sure that this meal has changed drastically since the glowing five star reviews for this have been made. For one, there are no carrots or onions or anything like that which are mentioned in one review. This is simply only roast beef, mashed potatoes, and gravy. That's it. Second, it's not very impressive. Maybe I got a bad batch but TWO of these meals in a row had extremely lumpy mashed potatoes. After heating (and adding extra time in hopes that would help), the mashed potatoes were in a solid block under the meat. I had to smash and stir it for about three minutes before it resembled actual mashed potatoes but they were far from creamy. The lumps left behind were small and numerous and extremely unappetizing to eat (in fact, even though today I ended up skipping breakfast and am starving, I really can't bring myself to eat them). The meat though is surprisingly good. I'm usually not a big fan of many of the red meat in the Hormel line but I really enjoyed this one. But then, it was the best thing about the meal so maybe it's raised up in comparison. The gravy is not even half as salty as the red meat gravy meals tend to be which is an extremely good thing. Honestly, the best thing about these Hormel meals is that they fill you up for a very low price, can be stored anywhere, and really can't be easier to prepare. I ate the meat and about 1/4 of the mashed potatoes in this meal and even with my skipping breakfast, I feel completely satisfied. If these were lower in calories and sodium, I would honestly say these would always be our go-to when needing to grab a meal in ten minutes between meetings.

I tried these and the Swedish Meatball dish and the portions are okay. If you eat a lot, they're gonna seem on the small side and you're still gonna be very hungry afterwards. If you get full easily, the portion is gonna seem like a lot, but I think they're somewhere in the middle and not bad for the price. The taste however is NOT good. I tried one package and right away it smelled like canned dog food. But sometimes things smell really bad and they end up tasting so good. So I gave it a good try and it tasted like what I would think canned dog food tast like. The mashed potatoes was okay, not great but not terrible, but the meat and gravy were a little less than okay. I could not finish it and I was really hungry. I am donating my unopened ones to a food bank. I don't want to keep them at all.

I purchased these for a local food bank that only hands out non-perishable items. Because of this, most families don't have access to meats. Having struggled with a bit of financially-caused hunger myself, I can honestly say that meals like this are always greatly appreciated by food-bank recipients. This wholesome little microwavable meal may not be the healthiest or most appetizing meal in the world, but it certainly beats a night without a meal for many families. Each package of any Hormel Compleats meal is very filling. The serving size is large, large enough to fill even the hungriest of bellies. This specific meal, the Roast Beef & Mashed Potatoes has a few large delicious chunks of roast beef meat atop of smooth mashed potatoes, topped with brown gravy. The meat is very moist and the texture is exactly what you would expect of canned meat. It's not over-processed or strewn with any weird additives. It tastes like it should. The mashed potatoes are smooth and flavorful. They're sometimes a bit difficult to get evenly cooked in the microwave, so I suggest stirring every 20 seconds. It's always helped me get the mashed potatoes evenly heated. The gravy is really good as well. Not to heavy or watery. Just perfect. These meals are great for a variety of things. Obviously I donated them to a food bank- where they can be handed out as wholesome meat and veggies meal for families in need. But I also eat these myself, and they are a great quick meal on nights when you find yourself too exhausted to cook dinner. They'd also be great as emergency meals, because they don't need to be stored in a refrigerator. And they'd be great for camping, because they can easily and conveniently be carried in a backpack or stored in a tent. When it comes to canned, shelf-life meals, this is definitely one of the only foods I find appetizing. It's obviously not on par with any freshly cooked meal out there, but because of it's convenience and affordability I think it's rightfully earned its 5 stars from me.
