SunSun Canister Filter Media Set (Double pack)

I'm admittedly a noob with owning and maintaining an aquarium. I bought the SunSun HW-302 external canister filter, and read that you needed to buy the media separately. I saw this from the same company and purchased the double pack. Then I did more research on YouTube about what your filter media should look like, and I regretted buying this package. The ceramic rings are okay, as they provide a home for good bacteria. But the carbon isn't necessary, and the bio balls are useless. I think they are actually designed to swirl around in a moving bed/sump filter, which isn't explained anywhere in the product description. I wish I had bought some Biohome media, which are porous, extruded chunks of ceramic material and are supposed to do a much better job than the ceramic rings. They can replace all the media you might otherwise use, except the filter foams. I'm making due with this for now (minus the bio balls), and my tank is getting noticeably cleaner, but in the future I may replace my media with something designed to do the job better.The product will arrive in a very timely manner and in good condition.

Fits the filters they were made for. I order these a couple times a year as the filter is on a tank with an adult turtle and he can really make a mess!!! But this filter works great for this purpose but do have to clean it and replace filter and media more often than I would have to with fish.

Overall I'm impressed. The biorings are course and not flimsy or weak. I've made the mistake of purchasing media that crumbles in your hand when pressure is applied. I like them...The bioballs are just bio balls...not really that good....I prefer the biomedia...supports more aerobic bacteria by far. However, it's good quality and should last months...I don't really use activated carbon unless I have to remove medicine from the tank, but this is good quality stuff...

This was a great buy. Got my Sun Sun Canister up and rolling and couldn't be happier with how clear and how well these work within it. The amount you get is perfect to fill a large canister up. It came in a large box with individual boxes keeping the media separated. My favorite thing about it was the reusable bags the media came in so I can always add more or replace when necessary latter down the road.

I gave 4 stars, quality is good.I received a package with broken ceramic rings and open package with balls, which were less in quantity as part of it has been lost. In fact you do not need a double set. If you wash out the old set, he will serve you for a year.

This is a very good product with great customer service!!! When my media package arrived it had been damaged during the shipping by the postal service. I contacted the company and they replaced the damaged items quickly! I really appriciate a company that stands behind their products!! My filter is doing wonderful and the tank looks great!! Not bad for the price...Activated carbon works fine and lasts long.20mm bio balls is O.K.The ceramic rings are pretty useless (i use them at the very bottom of my canister (w/o a tray)I've found that the Biohome Mini Media works soooooo much better.So i use a mixture of the 3-Pack PLUS Coarse Fine Filter Sponge Pads, the Carbon, Bio Balls and Biohome Mini Media (on various trays) and so far it's the best mixture for a 2 turtle 30-gal tank (which is 2/3 full) and has various other fish.
