It isn't winter yet so I haven't used it yet, but it is very heavy cast iron so I know it will be worth it!I almost exclusively cook with my cast iron pans and know how well they hold on to the heat and throw it back and this is way thicker than my cast iron pans! (I also forget the oven mits from time to time. yeouch!)I can't wait for winter this year!I am always thinking outside the box, what am I saying... There is no box... So maybe in the summer I can use it as a griddle! Wait... It is so heavy, it will break my stove! Scratch that!I ordered this small one that is usually used on the sides of the firebox because when they built my house, they did not use a normal wood fireplace... They installed a gas fireplace without the gas so my firebox is smaller than average. It fits great!

we make a lot of fires in a large federal-style fireplace with aging firebricks that were beginning to crumble at the base. our chimney sweep told us to get a fireback, and this is the one we chose. It's heavy, stands alone (doesn't need the accessory clamps) and leans gently back against the bricks; we make the fire in front of it and the bricks behind it are protected. it also radiates heat into the room as the fire dies down. but check the dimensions first to make sure your fireplace can accommodate its size.

After a LOT of searching, this was the least expensive ($170 CAD) fireback I could find to fit our 16” fireplace. We've had about 15 fires with it in place so far and it's holding up well. It looks like the finish is still intact and nothing has gone wrong. It's a solid and very heavy piece of cast iron. Says "Made in China" on the back. It doesn't come with feet but they don't really seem necessary. We just have it leaned against the back of the fireplace. It's heavy and doesn't move. I think I can feel more heat radiating from the fireplace now, but I haven't measured with and without... don't expect a huge difference. It looks nice and protects the back of the fireplace.

This fireback is just what was needed to supplement the fireplace. You can definitely feel more heat radiating out into the room.
