Hemingway on Fishing

Insightful cross-section of Hemingway's life and writing
He was a good writer, but not everything Hemingway wrote was top-notch. This collection proves it. But reel (pun intended) fishers will put the chaff aside and sit back to enjoy the drama, the lyrics, and ambience of Hemingway's second love (next to writing). Spanning his entire professional life, periodicals as well has his polished masterpieces (think "Old Man and the Sea" excerpts), this collection captures the many skills, emotions and effects fishing has on the dedicated. A must-read for anyone interested in the history and ecology of American fishing, and those who wonder how our thinking on sport fishing has evolved over the past century.

Hemingway Was & Always Will Be the Great American Novelist
I like anything written by Mr Hemingway! His books are told in simple stories, with simple, understandable words and ideas! To me, it takes a true genius to share fictional stories in that manner!Hemingway novels are not just made to be read-- they are made to be collected!

Hemingway need I say more
Excellent book on fishing by Hemingway , they are all just stories from other books and articles but still great Hemingway writing , I love the way Hemingway explains a scene or situation with just a sentence and I understand exactly what he is saying . He really has a grasp of the situation at hand !!

This is a compilation of the fishing portions of his novels and his magazine correspondence. it's interesting, and it had access to his magazine articles that I haven't read before. There is no flow to the organization of the material, but it wasn't intended for that. This is definitely for the well-read Hemingway student.

Four Stars
A good sample of Ernest Hemingway. Enough samples to show his style and view points.

a must read for any fan of the outdoors, hemingway and brilliant writing.
As a fan of Hemingway I am a biased reviewer but he never ceases to amaze me with his talent for the written word. As a lifelong fisherman I can truly appreciate the spiritual bond between a man or woman and the majesty of a mountain stream or the open water. If you fall (even marginally into either of these categories) do yourself a favor and pick up Hemingway on Fishing.

Don't let this one get away..........
I had never read Hemingway or been sea boat fishing, but after finishing this book I was licking the salt from my lips and feeling exhausted from the rigours of big game fishing in the Gulf Stream.I love fly fishing for trout and bought this book for these stories, which are in the first part of the book. They are evocative and engaging tales that capture the ambience and spirit of fishing that most people fond of this sport will easily relate too.The second section of the book features some of Hemingway's dispatches he wrote for various newspapers and magazines between 1920 and 1956.These factual reports set the scene superbly for the final section of the book that features the two longest excerpts from Hemingway's stories 'Islands in the Stream' and 'The Old Man and the Sea'. Both of these stories about fishing for marlin in the Gulf Stream lead you into an epic encounter with the psychological and physical demands that ensues.Hemingway's passion for big game fishing and his masterful storytelling was a revelation that held me fascinated and awestruck along with his empathy for both man and fish. Although I think that this book is primarily meant for people with an interest in any kind of fishing, it has left me with a desire to read more of Hemingway's stories, which is probably the best compliment I can pay.

'Headline and three more words required', it says.
Tell me who doesn't rate Hemingway very highly. Just read a couple of paragraphs of 'The Stream'. And 'Papa' always used three less words.

Hemingway - if you're a fan you'll like this
Hemingway, fishing: the moment[s], the anticipation, the taut tense stripped bare prose; what more needs be said.
