Formula 1 Details
If you are looking to see what is under the complex aerodynamic coverings, you can't do better than this series of books from Giorgio Piola. He has been doing technical illustrations on F1 since I can remember, so this series of books just put all of that great material from each year into one book, or rather 15, since that is how long this series has been going on. Without checking each week to see what the teams have brewed up, this reviews all the evolution and revolution in design through the year. The illustrations are detailed enough to really show those tiny modifications that are incorporated from race to race, so if this is something you really want to understand, you can't find anything better.Ya gotta be a bit OCD to really like it, but that is what this stuff is all about, don't you think?Very good stuff.Tom West

Fascinating technical review somewhat flawed.
The Formula1: Technical Analysis 2011/2012 is translated from Italian probably by someone who is not a native English speaker. While the text is fairly clear, word usage can be somewhat strange. Another flaw appears to be with call-outnumbers and arrows in the illustrations that are sometimes not referenced in the text. Perhaps they are in the Italian edition, but not here. These criticisms aside, this is a fascinating book for the fan of the technical side of Formula 1, probably the most technically complex form of motor racing. All of the illustrations are color drawings, probably done on a computer, and are very clear and detailed. Occasionally a detail of interest is too small to be really seen well.So far as I can tell, no other yearbook covering the technical aspects of F1 is available in English in the US. Flawed or not, Iwill certainly be buying next year's issue and urge F1 fans to at least have a look at this unique publication.

I know nothing about cars and didn't read this book. It was bought for my 23 year-old who has recently taken an interest in cars and racing. He loves it!

Excellent as usual!
Piola continues his excellent coverage of the technical developments in Formula 1. As an illustrator he understands the full value that pictures bring to automotive topics.

Fascinating insight.
Absolutely fascinating insight into the technical side of Formula 1 by Formuula1.com's Giorgio Piola. This is my second edition of this series, having also bought Formula 1 Technical Anaysis N2011/2012 .The book covers all of the developments made to the cars over the course of the 2012 season & previews part of the 2013 season in the final 10 or so pages. There are sections dedicated to engine, suspension, gearbox and engines, aerodynamics, brakes and loads more. Each car has comparisons between it and its predecessors in side by side drawings & comparisons between launch spec and later on in the season too. There are sections for every team, however Caterham & Marussia have very short sections, presumably due to their lack of updates. There are also tyre graphs showing you which tyres drivers pitted for during the races and a table showing who supplies components to the cars, the specification of the parts & the wheelbase sizes etc. (E.g. Red Bull had a wheelbase of 3355mm, Ferrari had a wheelbase of 3415mm) Formula 1 Technical Anaysis N2011/2012

Simply the best F1 book available
If you are an F1 fan and have not seen inside the Piola F1 Technical books, then you should.Put it this way, you can now see his drawings on the F1 site itself. The commercial owners of the Formula One brand want to make sure that they are associated with only the best! The book tracks the detail changes on each of the cars through the season. Although the English translation is not always totally fluent, the graphics are outstanding. If you want to get a better idea of the changes that occur to a modern formula one car through the season, this is definitely a great way to see just what changed - race by race. There tends to be detailed sections on the steering wheels, engines and brakes as well as excellent visual explanations of how the aerodynamic changes introduced produced their results. All in all, a gem of information and beautiful graphics as well. Well worth the price, and the wait between the end of the season and the publication date!
