Great book
Overall, the book was really good and the ending left a since of closure and possibility. But if you've only read the first one, then I would recommend to stay with that, it's not that the last two books are bad, they're as good as they could be but they take away everything he had secured at the end of the first book . But, if you have already read the second(most likely for the majority of y'all reading this)then the damage has been done and I'm pretty sure you don't want to leave the series on that depressing note. Sure what I said before about him losing everything, sure there are moments where the stories so gloomy that you want to Chuck your kindle at a wall but overall, again, it was a good book.

Avi's books are never disappointing!
I love these books! Avi writes for a younger reader, but adults who enjoy descriptive, engaging stories will love his work as well. I really appreciate that while he writes mainly for a younger audience (9-15+), he does not "dumb down" his work for kids. He writes in such a way that children can understand and follow along, but it isn't the mindless garbage that so many produce in this genre. His historical stories are lush with detail, and kids can really imagine the characters, and the lives that they lead. A great read!

Fantastic, realistic, historic and beautifully realized
An amazing writer, my two children, aged 9 and 11, and I, read all three books of this trilogy right through. Gripping, beautifully written, historically rich. Avi puts us into another time and shows us the lives of those who are not often seen in our histories: the poor, the people just getting by, the outlawed, the sick and the survivors. My one and only wish were that the last 2 books of the series had some of the bright moments that the first had. In the first, Bear is so alive; he is a force for life. And in the last two, we have little escape from the darkness.

Great series! For adults too!
Originally bought the first book for my son in, but I loved it too and now we have all 3. I really hope Avi does another one. Well written, feel like you're there and miss the characters when the book is over.

Great read.
My 12 year old son loved it! Said it was a “great read” and asked about others in that series.

Great book for 10 and up boys and girls.
A somewhat accurate glimpse into what life was like for people during that time. Well written!

Love these books! Exciting adventures!
I have adored all three books in this series. Avi combines the perfect mixture of drama and history. Wonderful stories about life long ago! Highly recommended.

A Great Favorite
After tearing through all three Crispin books in record time, my eleven-year-old demanded that I write to the author to ask for more Crispin books -- soon!I think that is the most sincere praise a book (or series) can earn. (I haven't written to the author yet, but perhaps someone else has, so more books may be on the way.)
