Not at all what I wanted - much too technical for Children's instruction

Hard to understand and for a beginners book there was no beginning. He assumes you have basic knowledge which I do not.....unfortunately

When I received this book the "appendix of simple melodies" to play was missing so I returned it and the new copy was missing it as well. Also I have no musical training and can't read music and it didn't take long before this book of "basics for beginners" assumed I new much more than I did by using music vocabulary I don't understand. In any case I kept it and I was able to learn enough from it to make it worth keeping but I think you could do better.

My copy of this book is missing the Appendix which include simple melodies and the layout of the circle of fifths. The table of contents list the appendix but it is not in the book. There is no publisher or contact information listed to inquire about getting items missing.

I wanted more music choices, I found the book rather noninformational. Disappointed.

Une agréable surprise, ce manuel est riche d'enseignement, même s'il est en anglais, avec des termes simples et facile à traduire, il y a beaucoup de dessins, d'illustrations et de détails techniques qui fond découvrir l'instrument et la façon de s'en servir.Seul bémol, il ne concerne qu'un modèle de steelpan, donc il faut l'adapter au sien.

This book is so helpful in explaining the basics of the pan layout. It covers the major scales and chords for beginners and, even a few exercises for Mallet control. There is also a Circle of fifths layout poster on the back page with the names of all the notes on the tenor steel-pan. I don't know what I would do without this book, I highly recommend it.

A really good book for teaching you how to play music on the steal pan drums a very fair price and was delivered before my expected delivery date.

You are paying for the picture and cover. What it has in the contents is fairly standard but inside is just lightweight and printed and beginner does not mean you are a child, it looks like a child's exercise book and would be better as such, in that it should not have a fancy cover and is as effective if it looks like a photocopy as it does inside. Much cheaper and some of the written work needs some attention. There are many such books, unfortunately this was the only one I could find when I wanted it. I think it better to speak to the music teacher or ask the pan player or British Association of Steel in the UK their opinion.
