Some of the Commenters Here Sound Unhinged
Some of the commenters sound unhinged. Hospers' text was the most common' introduction to ethics' text a generation ago praised for its context and scholarship. Hospers is the only academic philosopher to run for President as the first gay candidate as well. Many commenter attacks are based on Hospers' actually paying attention to Ayn Rand and the revived Aristotelians, calling it a creed. Rand is considered a key philosopher among Aristotelians trying to un-kidnap Aristotle from the Catholic Church. To call a survey a screed because it treats a philosopher who famously calls into question lazy, politicized on far-right/-left and ill-educated philosophers in academia is improper.Rand's main point is the prime virtue is rationality and the importance of philosophy. Given the attacks on reason and free speech in many Humanities and Social Science Departments, Rand is understandably also attacked as a 'pseudo-philosopher.'

Human Conduct
I found this text to be very informative and easy to read. It is not written for a particular examination where certain key specifications have to be learned; instead it is just a very readable guide to many of the arguments that philosophers have encountered over the years in the area of ethics. I found it fascinating to read, and Hospers makes the text as simple as possible, so even the layman (like myself) can understand it. This however is the third edition of the book. I remember coming across the first edition of this book in my university library and it was a much larger and more thorough book than this one. It seems that over the years Hospers has made his text even simpler to read than it already was. My preference is for the first edition if you can get it. But if you can’t then I’m sure this text will suffice. Four stars, as the first edition was better.I hope you find my review helpful.
