fun series
Easy read. Walker is a nice guy to know. Good details on recreational vehicles in case I want to buy one someday.

What's with the women in these stories?
I've made it through five of these books now and mostly enjoyed them. I like the fact that Walker is a good guy with a strong moral barometer. But why is EVERY SINGLE WOMAN he meets/serves/never scores with always an emasculating b*tch? The first time around, I thought maybe I was just reading it wrong. Then the second, then the third, and now I realize they are ALL written that way. They order Walker around mercilessly, treat him like their manservant -- no, make that chauffeur with classy wheels -- and never, ever even say "thank you." He is truly a doormat. I've never seen such a collection of unlikeable females, it's really depressing after a while. Not once has Walker ever gotten laid -- is he gay? I'm fine if he is, but come out of the closet already. I really wish the women were more three-dimensional and actually acted like someone you might want to spend time with.

It is what it is.
I gave it five stars because I did, after all, read the entire series over the course of a couple days. That must mean something. Bill's work is...well, I only paid $2.99 each for the Amazon Kindle version and that means all six books cost about the same as a couple bottles of wine. Well worth the price for some easy beach reading and I drank the wine, too. Now THAT'S entertainment.Look, nobody gets hurt (much) in these books. The protagonist, Walker, has the usual special-ops bad-ass back story but he goes to great lengths not to hurt anybody, including the various thugs that invariably come after him. He has a steady string of beautiful and independent women more or less throw themselves at him but there are no awkward or hide-your-eyes sex scenes. Only one person gets murdered (as near as I can remember) in the whole series and that one is a bad guy and it happens off-stage.Which is refreshing compared to the usual serial killer heroes. Now listen, as literature goes this series gets less than a star. There is a bit of static in continuity from book to book, and the quotation marks are all over the place. Sometimes it is not clear who is speaking. The plots are...well, over the course of six books this guy Walker is continually stumbling into huge sums of money. Unlikely severance pay amounts, corporate bribes, then a free RV, which incidentally has half a million in gold hidden inside, later he buys his first ever lottery ticket and it wins, then on a fling he goes off to the Treasure Coast for some incongruous beach combing and on the first day finds highly valuable Spanish Treasure.Like I said, harmless fun for a book to carry along to the beach or otherwise killing time in a waiting room. I don't mean to back stab the author and don't forget, I gave the series five stars and read it all in a 48 hour stretch. Now I am reading the Leatherstocking Tales by James Fenimore Cooper. Quite a switch and for a REALLY scathing (and hilarious) review google up what Mark Twain had to say about THAT series. Finally, there are plenty of details about life in a motor home. Not surprising since the author spends half his time in a motor home and has written a couple instructional books on the subject. And let us not forget the cat. There is a cat. An American Bobtail named Mango Bob. Bob never does much but somehow, by the end of each installment, he shines out as my favorite character. So there ya go.Tim Joe Comstock

Enjoyable Wholesome Escape
The Mango Bob series includes plenty of adventure and action without the modern-day "obligatory" foul language. Characters and events are believable. The main character, though not a detective, uses common sense and computer skills to solve mysteries. His first-person narrative lacks the clever repartee of classic private eyes like Spencer or Elvis Cole but holds your interest. The author has a somewhat annoying habit of starting a new paragraph in the middle of characters' quotations, contrary to universal practice of changing paragraphs only when someone else is speaking; consequently, you find yourself having to figure out from the context who is talking.

Mango Bay
As far as depth goes I probably wouldn't rate Mango Bay at 5 stars. But I did give it a 5 star rating because I have truly always wanted to buy an RV and live in Florida, meeting new people and experiencing the lifestyles of snowbirds and life long floridians alike. I can't truly imagine things happening the way they did when it comes to Walker's adventures but what I like most are the people Walker meets, they seem like people you could actually run into and form friendships with. Buck and Polly are true characters! I hope they are based on real people that Bill H Myers has met! I also like the facts included in the story about Florida, RVs, campgrounds and houseboats. For me, it adds to the realism and makes me yearn for my dream of living like Walker and Mango Bob. Even if I never get to do it, these stories will allow me to live my dream vicariously through them.

I like the stories, but...
Overall, I find the story lines entertaining. I like Walker...he seems like a genuinely good guy, if somewhat of a pushover. And Bob, of course. I live in Florida, so I like hearing about places I recognize. But I have two major issues that take some of the pleasure out of reading these books.1) The author clearly has/has had some issues with women in his life. Every female character in these books is bossy, demanding and obnoxious. Right from their first interaction with Walker. Not very realistic, because most people would not tolerate being treated that way all the time. And it's just not fun to read when it is every communication from every female character.2) The author does not seem to remember how things occurred or were presented in prior books in the series, and restates the event completely differently in a subsequent book. For people reading the whole series, that's annoying, because you can clearly remember how it was written the first time, and he just changes it to meet his new narrative. There are also missing words, grammatical or punctuation errors, etc. , but the books are $2.99, so that can be forgiven. For that price, I don't see him hiring a professional editor.

Good undemanding reading
Like the other books in the series this is a good read for a holiday or long train / plane journey. I found the plot somewhat unlikely but it is entertaining and a good light read.
