Data Analysis with Mplus (Methodology in the Social Sciences Series)

Detail-obsesive, practical and pedagogic
This book was the perfect complement to my Advanced Statistic seminair in the PhD. In the live discussions we had the chance to analyze the benefits and applications of different data analysis techniques, while professor Geiser explains with perfect germanic order the HOW TO to prepare the data, program in MPlus, parametrize the analysis and interpret the results.A note of caution: You will need the software, your hypothesis and databases to actually make good use of the book.

I'm in the midst of analyzing my dissertation data and just need to stop and say this book is a godsend. Of course you need to use it in combination with a more theoretical text to help make decisions on which approach is best for your research questions, but I admit I am getting more useful information out of this than my theoretical text and the MPlus Q&A forums. Thank you Dr. Geiser.

Please enable text to speech for kindle.
As someone with a disability that affects reading text, I would really appreciate enabling text to speech. The book comes highly recommended from a trusted friend, and I'm sure it will be a helpful resource while designing the model for my dissertation.

The book is an excellent introduction to MPlus
The book is an excellent introduction to MPlus, usful and intuitive for beginners and grad students. It has a very good balance between theoretical explanations and step-by-step guidelines for applying somewhat complex analyses (SEM, LCA, LGC, etc) to your research.

Great book for SEM
I'm using this in addition to the Structural Equation Modeling book by Kenneth Bollen. It's a very helpful complement, and would probably be useful on its own if you had a strong base understanding of the statistical techniques already and just needed to get more information on modeling in Mplus.

Very well written
The author does a great job at making mplus accessible with ample examples. Definitely a book I'll keep in my collection.

Good basic information for people just learning MPLus
I found this book very useful, but it would be good to have an updated version that included a broader range of models, for instance Latent Profile Analysis, not just LCA. One of the most useful things about this book were the tips on preparing data to be transferred from SPSS so that it could be used in MPlus. This isn't covered very well in the MPlus Manual. In addition, there are numerous tips throughout for the novice user of MPLus. Well worth the money.

Excellent Guide for using MPlus
This book is an excellent guide for using MPlus. The MPlus program is powerful and simple, but its simplicity means that it is not always obvious how to set up the syntax. Geiser has done an outstanding job of providing both the step-by-step information that allowed me to start running analyses AND enough content description so that the book is more than just a "cookbook". I recommend this to anyone starting to use Mplus. It was one of the best statistical books I've ever purchased.

Great primer!
If you want a textbook that it is comprehensive, easy to read and gives you a good first overview this is your book!Ignore any reviews that say the writer does not use M-PLUS.As with any other SEM packages, the researcher needs to prepare the data in simple statistical packages such as SPSS or STATA. So you DO want the writer to write about this step to help you move on from SPSS to M_PLUS.On the other hand, if you want more a book to induct you into more specialised SEM techniques, this is NOT your book.Overall, a great introductory book that puts you into the picture quickly and effectively.

Great Guide and Reference Manual
This book is great guide to SEM and MPlus-- it is well organized, clear and thorough.Only downside is that the syntax (examples in the book and supplemental materials available online) is written in an older MPlus style, so it doesn't match up perfectly with newer syntax you see now a days.I still highly recommend it!

Useful but could be better
A good clear guide to using Mplus. A fairly limited range of models presented but the text is informative, easy to follow and includes some useful tips. A significant flaw with this book is that not all syntax is included. In particular some of the graphs presented were not produced using Mplus. In these cases the syntax for the graphs production and the software used should be included. This is a significant omission. Finally the book is quite expensive.

Great introduction to SEM and Mplus
This is a great introduction to Mplus - it's very clearly written and probably the most readable & understandable SEM book I've read. It does only focus on the basics, but has some good references that point to more advanced texts. I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone new to Mplus.Looking forward to the follow-up advanced book coming out.
