Sturdy and works
Planted 500 daffodils in grass so far. Sturdy and well made. Makes the job far easier. No signs of problems with either the handle or the metal planter despite significant weight being applied. Great purchase.

Quality bulb planter
Good sturdy tool. Makes bulb planting a breeze. We have very heavy soil so it is very useful for getting the bulbs in deep enough. Would definitely recommend

Easy to use
Nice tool to help plant bulbs. Assuming your soil is of good quality this is easy to use. Good make so I'm sure it will last for years.

Excellent quality
If I hadn’t have decided to scatter plant narcissus bulbs in my meadow thick grass, using this tool would have been much easier. I just couldn’t get it through the surface in some areas to make the hole. It also didn’t help that my garden was largely built on builders rubble and old house foundations (unbeknown to me at the time of purchase!) so there was a lot of false starts with the bulb planter. When it did go into the lawn, the consecutive hole dig failed to push up the divot from the tool so replanting the removed divot into the previous hole ended up being a bit piecemeal at times. However, I would not have attempted planting bulbs in the lawn at all without this and it gave a really clean cut hole when it did go in.I also planted some bulbs into the soil which the tool went into very easily- however because the soil was such fine quality here and a bit damp, the divots tended to break up or just muddied up the tool.Having said that, have this bulb planter made life so much easier for me as a disabled person who finds it hard to bend down and fatigues easily. It took me a fraction of the time it normally takes and I got about 30 bulbs in in about half an hour (which is good for me!)It is not perfect. No tool is. The user’s abilities (or lack of) can compromise the efficacy of the most perfectly made tool. However, as tools go, Spear & Jackson make luxury quality, wooden traditional gardening tools and the bulb planter is no exception. This tool is particularly useful if like me, you don’t like formal flower beds. You can mix in bulbs with existing foliage without disturbing the surrounding plants/grasses to achieve a more naturalised feel to your blooms - it also ensures your bulbs won’t be choked by competing plants.

Works but the tee-handle is very poorly fastened
The stainless steel section appears tough and the welding looks fine. I managed nine holes into our soft, north-facing lawn before the tee-handle twisted off. It's fastened onto the wooden shaft by a piece of wooden dowel no bigger than a thick matchstick and, as a professional engineer, I was appalled at this poor design. Such a fastening is no better than a locating peg that one might use to ensure that the handle didn't fall off whilst it was being properly fastened to the shaft. The best way of fastening the handle to the shaft would have been using a good quality space-filling adhesive. I have used an Araldite product to fix this but shouldn't have had to do so. Checking the handle and shaft before doing this showed that neither had ever seen any adhesive: the manufacturer had simply rough-bored a hole into the handle and pushed the turned end of the shaft into the hole. I wouldn't expect it to last 30 minutes use, never mind 10 years. This is an expensive product, one of the most expensive available, and the Spear & Jackson brand owners should be ashamed of themselves for such cheapskate manufacturing, selling a superficially attractive product with such a dreadful inherent design fault that could be avoided for less than 1p cost per item.

Top quality
Great planter, made the job of panting this seasons Tatties a lot easier, well made and sturdy, I soaked the woodwork with l linseed oil as soon as it arrived, which I do with every wooden handled tool that I purchase or am given. I also clean and oil at the end of the growing season before stowing away believe me this will legnthen the life of your garden tools 20 fold 😉👍🏻 I would purchase this again but i wont have to

Exactly as described
Exactly as described, feels sturdy, works well to plant bulbs in grass without damaging the grass too much. You just take out a plug, pop in the bulb and push the plug back over it. The depth pins helped me not to plant the bulbs too deep.

Sehr robust.
Bin begeistert.
