Global Contexts: Essential Handbook!
This book is an insightful guide to illustration today presenting contemporary practitioners. With practical illustration assignments working alongside the themes discussed the reader is encouraged to form their own opinions about global issues) . I like how this book includes a study of both established and up-and-coming illustrators intertwined with advice on materials, tools, techniques and equipment. This book discusses illustration as a globally significant art form. Mark Wigan offers a personal perspective, displaying his passion for the future of illustration and the global responsibilities of illustrators. He discusses the evolution of illustration through virtual communication such as blogs, websites and portfolios. Wigan considers the role of self-publication, etc, in light of virtual communication, thus, setting the scene which any budding illustrator will now be entering. Before reading this book I found it difficult to quantify this ever changing discipline but now I feel confident with it. I was struck by the quality of the pictures and the clever layout; it is excellent given the size and price of the books, and rivals those at twice the price.
