Silly, but totally classic, humour!
I don't remember when I was first 'introduced' to Frank Spencer and his madcap ways - I was too young. But I always remember thinking that he was really funny, and if an episode of Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em was on the TV, then I'd always watch it. As I got older, I found them even more humorous as I 'got' some of the jokes that in my innocence would have totally bypassed me. And now I'm hooked. When I saw all of the episodes were available as a box set, I just had to have it. People may think it's unusual that someone of my age would rather watch a show that was first shown on TV before I was born that some of the modern stuff. But this show is a classic and I love it. It's got none of the special effects of today's shows, and it doesn't need crimes, deaths, affairs and teenage pregnancies to make it compelling viewing. It's just pure and simple comedy; a show about the life of a good, but completely deranged simpleton and his long-suffering (and also not that bright) wife. Of course, some of the scenes are pretty unrealistic, but I think it's that which makes it so funny. And I never get bored of watching them - the episodes are just so silly, and I think Frank Spencer's "Ooo Betty!" catchphrase has already gone down in history and will continue to be used in conversation for years to come.If you too, were born after this show was filmed but have no idea what I'm talking about, seriously, give it a try. If you like silly, slapstick humour - you will love Frank Spencer. Never fails to make me laugh.

Classic 70's comedy at it's finest
Back in the 70s there were a veritable goldmine of classic comedies. Many of you who will read this will remember Morecambe and Wise, The 2 Ronnies, Rising Damp, Fawlty Towers, to name but a few. This box set of SMDAE has already provided hours of laughter and viewing pleasure for myself and my family. This is slapstick humour at it's finest as Michael Crawford plays bumbling but well meaning Frank W.Spencer, who travails through life with disaster seemingly shadowing him wherever he goes. By his side is his ever loyal and patient wife Betty- Joined in Season 2 by the birth of their daughter Jessica. Mercifully this set includes every single episode, including the 3 christmas specials plus 1 episode at the end of the 1st season which mysteriously had not featured on the VHS release some years back. Hard to pick 1 particular episode that stands out from the others- They're all brilliant! The 1st episode is a riot when Frank goes for a job interview and George Baker nearly has a nervous breakdown. The 3rd and last season is perhaps the best of the whole lot, particularly in episode 2 when Richard Wilson(later to be Victor Meldrew in One foot in the grave)turns up as an insurance rep and sinks down through the couch and tries not to laugh himself. This is the episode with the superglue and for me has to be the peak of the whole series. Look out also for the very last episode in season 3 when Frank manages to blow up a house when going to fix a boiler, comes out in rags and declares 'That's the best I can do for the moment'!Excellent value for anyone- get on Amazon fast and get 1 today! OOOOh Betty!

Review On Some Mothers 'Do Ave Em' The Complete Collection
I purchased this entire box set on VHS from Amazon.co.uk a few years ago after seeing episodes of Some Mothers 'Do Ave Em' on the BBC and UKGold channels. The series was going well before I was born as I was born in 1980 and having watched the repeats I fell in love with the series and just had to buy the box set when I found out one was available after browsing the internet!Enjoy again and again this classic, timeless vintage BBC comedy starring Michael Crawford as accident prone Frank Spencer and Michele Dotrice as suffering wife Betty. This box set has every episode ever made including the 3 Christmas Specials. From hanging his car over a cliff edge to roller skating down the high street behind a bus, Frank Spencer meets up with one disaster and harassment after another as nothing ever goes right for him! If you remember the series from the 1970's, are a huge fan and enjoy a great laugh, this really is an essential purchase for you! I watch this time and time again and even to this day still enjoy it just as much. So much infact I am now thinking of upgrading my VHS collection of the series to DVD! Brilliant and what a star Michael Crawford is! They certainly don't make them like this anymore!

Both boxes badly broken
Both boxes are so badly broken that it will be impossible to store the videos in them. Very poor quality and so flimsy. This was a present and was very disappointing to give and receive, especially at the price we paid. We haven`t played the videos yet. very dissatisfied, A.G.Wilding. Also , the illustration on box was nothing like the one I ordered being in black and white.

Totally stupid !
This just has me in fits of chuckles ! Michael Crawford is just excellent as Frank Spencer- Mr Crawford certainly has a flair for the kind of physical comedy that Raymond Allen had in mind when he wrote the screenplays. Even when you know what is going to happen or what Frank is going to say you still chortle. This series is just plain stupid but it is the perfect antidote to all the gloom & doom. Now I normally like intelligent humor a la Stephen Fry on QI but every so often it is nice not to have to think about what you are watching and just to roar with laughter. The supporting cast are well chosen and I recommend this fine set of discs as a great way to chase the blues away! Amazon are selling it at a very good price after all !

Michael Crawford Fans Rejoice! The Complete BBC Series Finally on Region 1 DVD!
I've been waiting a decade for the BBC to release the complete series of "Some Mothers Do`Ave`Em" on Region 1 DVD. Some minor packaging and presentation issues aside, the episodes and extras in this collection have been well worth the wait."Some Mothers" is a deviant among British comedies, in that it is actually funny, something today's comedians and sitcoms rarely accomplish. While Raymond Allen’s writing is brilliant, the real credit goes to Michael Crawford, who took on the role of the hapless but well-meaning bumbler Frank Spencer and made it his own.A character more in common with physical comedians in the tradition of Charlie Chaplin or Buster Keaton, Frank Spencer is a young man for whom nothing ever seems to go right. His difficulty in fitting in (namely, finding a job) always ends in disaster and usually destruction, and is a recurring theme throughout most of the episodes. Like any good comedy, a substantial portion of the humor is built upon misunderstanding, which Frank, if he wasn't already the king of malapropisms, would be monarch. His childlike naïveté (often wrongly construed by others as ignorance and stupidity) and enthusiasm often gets him into trouble, and his righteous indignation when he gets something wrong is never dull to watch. While Crawford's signature Frank Spencer voice has become a legend in itself, it is his amazing facial expressions, physical mannerisms, impeccable comedic timing, and fearless physicality that rank him among the comedy greats. Turn off the sound and he's still a very funny man. Yet, rather than just be a perennial clown, Crawford, as an intensely emotional performer, also manages to create a real pathos about Frank, particularly in the scenes when Frank talks about his deceased mother or with his baby daughter Jessica. As far the as physical specifications of this 2021 BBC/VEI DVD box set, the sound and video quality, even as transferred from 1970s videotape, is a vast improvement on the fuzzy 2001 BFS DVD set. While not HD by any means, it’s the best I’ve ever seen this show look. Spread across three discs, all three complete seasons are included here, as well as the 2016 Sport Relief skit and three short featurettes about the making of the 2016 skit. The episodes are presented in original broadcast order (with the exception of an error on the menu of Disc 2 where selecting “Frank and Marvin” plays “The Father’s Clinic” and vice versa). And while they're unfortunately held in cheap fabric sleeves rather than on plastic spindles, the narrow clamshell case is a sturdy and space-saving way to store the entire series. It’s impossible to be in a bad mood after watching this show, and if you like Michael Crawford or just old-fashioned, side-splitting comedy, than this “Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em” set is the thing for you.
