Werner Extension Ladder Replacement Pulley Assembly, Kit 31-12

So, my old 24' extension ladder (by manufacturer unknown) needed a new pully assembly (and rope). To install, a machine screw (included) goes through one end of the (bendable) rung bracket, through the pully (wheel) assembly, and out the other end of the rung bracket. Then a lock nut goes on the bottom end of the machine screw to hold everything in place. As I learned, a lock nut has to be fastened with a wrench, in this case a socket wrench, or it won't travel onto the screw; it gets locked onto the screw when it's tightened. My typical wrench didn't tighten the lock nut tight enough; so a socket wrench was used and it fastened the lock nut tighter, or farther up the machine screw. The instructions say to use a 7/16" wrench, so I assume we (my neighbor the mechanic did this for me) used a 7/16" socket wrench. The instructions also say to fasten the rung bracket to the rung with the included rivet---we did not do that. Perhaps I will find another way to affix the rung bracket to the rung, but it is not necessary. My old pully assembly was not fastened to the rung. By the way, instructions say to remove the old pully with a chisel and hammer. That didn't work either. We needed a sawzall tool to remove it. My ladder was already put away, hung on the inside of my garage door, so that's why the pully is sideways in the photos. Also, my rung is slightly less than 5" in diameter. I also bought the Werner Extention Ladder Replacement Rope, AC30-2, and worked nicely. I used a candle to melt the ends to prevent the ends from fraying.

This pulley assembly is much better quality than the original pulley which came with my Keller ladder. It was plastic and broke many years ago. I had jury rigged a metal plate over the plastic sleeves which held the roller in place, but it finally gave out this year when we were putting up Christmas lights. I was a little concerned about ordering this as I typically like to see the assembly before I buy, but this is a perfect replacement. It installed easily and will be perfect for the ladder. The ladder is stored on the side of the workshed under the eave, but still gets some exposure to the elements and this metal assembly should last for some time.

A very high quality kit for extension ladder repair. My ladder is not a Werner, but this kit worked fine to replace the broken pulley assembly. This pulley is much better quality than my original. I gave it only 4 stars as the locknut was missing in my kit. I had a replacement in my 'spare parts' bin, but it was annoying that it was not included.

I used this on an older Keller aluminum extension ladder and fit perfectly and is a much better quality part that what come with the ladder. I just wonder why I put up with the broken pulley so long when an easy fix was available. The installation was very easy, but does require a pop rivet tool to secure the "U" shaped pulley hanger to the ladder rung. Without securing the hanger with the supplied pop rivet (but not the installation tool), the pulley could slide on the rung. Not a big problem but riveting the bracket to the rung makes it rock solid.

Original plastic pulley assembly on my Keller ladder broke years ago. Finally got around to searching for a replacement. This item was a simple retrofit onto my brand of ladder. Easy installation. Now my 25 year old ladder works better than new. Much better quality since all metal. Wish I had done this years ago.

I repaired my old Keller 3520 ladder that needed the works; pulley, rope, flappers, and the siding protectors on the top. I considered finding a different pulley for less than $15, or just a metal pulley wheel as just the plastic one on my ladder was damaged, but this one got good reviews and I knew it would work. My original ladder pulley was not locked in place with a rivet and I never noticed this being a problem. I really didn't feel like drilling a whole in my ladder and I don't have a rivet tool. I'ts nice that they provide the rivet you need if you want to use it, but I ended up putting a zip tie on either side, and that works fine to keep the pulley in the middle. Overall it works great.

It works OK. I can once again use the ladder. All parts of the repair kit are sturdier than the originals and I expect it will last a long time. That is the good part of this review. The bracket which holds the pulley onto the ladder rung is not configured to suspend the pulley correctly beneath the rung it is supported by, forcing the pulley to hang at an odd angle, giving the assembly an awkward apperance which does not seem to allow as smooth an operation as the original. The bolt which attaches the pulley to the bracket is 1/4" diameter and the hole in the pulley, through which it passes is 1/2" making for a very sloppy assembly from an engineering point of view. Like I said, it works OK now but it appears a child designed it or it was thrown together form left over parts of other projects.

This extension ladder pulley system was easy to replace on my extension ladder and works better than the original one pulley.

Our extension ladder is over 30 years old. The pulley part broke so we could not extend it anymore. To replace our whole ladder was very expensive so we decided to try and replace the pulley and it worked! Very pleased !
