Andromeda - The Complete Collection [DVD]
A**.
Great scifi series from the early 2000s with a horrible Blu-ray execution.
I really enjoyed this show when it aired weekly back in the early 2000s, which is why I bought the Blu-ray set for the entire series run, seasons 1-5. For that reason alone I am pleased with the purchase. But why did "they" produce this set in Blu-ray? According to my player's info panel, the video is presented in 480i format, the same as broadcast television when the series was originally aired. I am NOT happy with spending more than the regular DVD set would have cost and getting NOTHING in return. My preamp-processor also shows mixed readings for audio. Sometimes I get Dolby Surround, sometimes not. In fact, during season 3 (which I am currently viewing) I get no sound from my front left speaker at all. Seems as if the dubs over time have suffered so much that channels drop out completely. Even when get sound from each of the 3 front channels, it never rises to the level of "quality" surround sound. The manufacturer should have just recorded it in mono, and TOLD the potential buyer. If I'm being honest this entire set looks like someone played the original episodes on a simple video recording setup and dubbed the Blu-rays from that system. The only pro I can find for this set is ANDROMEDA was one of my favorite scifi shows and now I have the complete series. End of pros.

I purchased this series and I am glad that I did
I purchased this series and I am glad that I did. While it is true that it is upconverted from dvd it is good quality. If you do not own the series on dvd this blu-ray set is a very good buy. The last disk of each season has special features. The disks are region free and I can confirm that they play on US blu-ray players and playstation 3's. The only complaint that I have with this set is that it has a very cheap thin paper case instead of a thicker sturdy case. I am currently watching season 4 and enjoying every minute of it.

This is Andromeda on Blu-ray disks, not Andromeda in Blu-ray quality. Excellent show.
Andromeda is an excellent show, the rating for the show would be 5 stars for me.However, this is Andromeda on Blu-ray disks, not Andromeda in Blu-ray quality. I'm not even sure this is DVD quality, to be honest, looks like old broadcast recordings. I didn't have a copy of the show (which is why I bought these), but I can't imagine these are better than anything short of not having it.

No captions, and won't save my place
I purchased these because I started streaming the series on Amazon Prime, then got shut down when (I'm assuming) the agreement with the content provider changed or expired. I am sorry to report that my Blu-Ray format set does not include an option for subtitles. I'm a bit hard of hearing, not too bad but I like to have the captions on when I watch TV shows. There were captions available when I was streaming the show, but not on the Blu-Ray discs I got. Also, my players seem unable to remember that I have started these discs and find my place for me, as they do with other Blu-Ray and DVD discs. On my computer, that means if I pause the show (usually to fetch another brewski) and I am gone for the few minutes it takes for the player to wind down, I start the disc over with the "don't copy" warning, producer splash, and main menu. Every time. Not very handy.

NEW 2019 DVD REVIEW
The picture and sound quality are sound. If you pop these into a Blu ray player, the up conversion tech on most Blu ray players, provides a picture quality BETTER than the Blu ray release. Nice set and absolutely worth it for the price. NO special features. I still think the Slipstream Collection is the best release ever for this show. What i didn't like about this release, is the packaging. Disks were loose when i got it and they have them stacked in these so tight, it's hard to navigate. If you are buying this to check it out and watch it, this is perfect. if you are a fan and LOVE the show, Find a slipstream collection!

I have just finished watching Season 1. The Blu-ray ...
I have just finished watching Season 1. The Blu-ray discs are top notch. Audio and Video are crisp and vivid. For me this Collection is a way to finally see the entire series (in order) as it aired originally. The characters are well cast and very enjoyable to watch.

Solid Blu-ray Collection w/ Minor Issues
I love Andromeda, and am very happy to finally have the entire series on Blu-ray. Overall, this is a really solid collection, although there are a few minor issues to talk about. The selection menus on the Blu-rays are a little buggy and will occasionally malfunction, preventing you from making a selection, but popping the disc out and back in always seems to correct this. There's also no support for resume-playback, so if you walk away long enough for your Blu-ray player to fall asleep, you'll have to start the episode over from the beginning and fast-forward back to where you left off. But these are really just minor gripes. The most important things are all here; all of the episodes intact, with great video and audio quality. The cases containing the episodes are also of a nice quality, and the box containing the entire set is also of a decent design. So despite any minor issues I've had with this collection, I am still very happy I bought it.

Long post because of real post
Fantastic price actual TV show I remember watching has every episode now the negatives you cannot fast forward you cannot rewind it does not remember where you left off so you better finish the episode and write down which one you watched last this is very inconvenient quite annoying in this day and age. It would work better if it was on VHS tapes yes I know but it would because at least then when you press stop you can start where you stopped last episode other than that the show is amazing the DVDs are quality not high definition though. Just so disappointed that you cannot fast forward rewind or pick up where you left off if you stop watching always have to finish the episode very sad

The pros and cons of Andromeda on Blu-ray
Revelation Films' box set of Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda on Blu-ray includes all five seasons of the show, 110 episodes altogether. You get 25 BDs in five good Amaray-type cases, presented in a thin cardboard box. The aspect ratio is 16x9 widescreen throughout, and the audio is conventional 5.1. Extras are limited to alternative takes, deleted scenes and bloopers - the many featurettes that enlivened the American DVDs of the show have all been rather meanly left out.Andromeda certainly looks better on these discs than it has ever done before. Seasons 1 and 2 are only a slight improvement on what those US DVDs provided, but Seasons 3, 4 and 5 up the quality noticeably. Motion is glitch-free and colours are pure, and in the last three seasons especially, details are precise. Don't get me wrong - I'm pretty sure that these Blu-rays are giving us merely upconversions, not the spectacular remastering that CBS undertook for Star Trek. But if you're a fan of the show, this box set is undoubtedly the best way to enjoy it..If you're not already an Andromeda enthusiast, the case for buying this collection isn't so persuasive. The show's first two seasons were solidly 4-star SF entertainment, but subsequently things deteriorated markedly. Season 5 was, I think, the most boring season of TV that I've seen in 60 years as a couch potato. No science fiction buff should even think of splashing out fifty quid on Andromeda unless they've already bought the Blu-rays of Firefly, Dollhouse, Lost, Revolution, Caprica, Heroes, The X-Files, Stargate Atlantis, Star Trek, Star Trek: Enterprise, Star Trek: the Next Generation, the rebooted Battlestar Galactica and Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles, all of which are incomparably more consistent, intelligent and absorbing than Andromeda even at its early best.

Good for what I needed it to be
This review refers to the DVDs and their packaging. So I won't refer to the series itself for now.My expectation to this box set was to have the entire series on DVD for a fairly cheap price, so I can watch it as I had never seen it in full. I didn't care for special features or aspect ratios. And for that purpose it's a fine set.The 30 Discs come in 2 large plastic cases similar to the epic pak line (recent Star Trek complete boxsets). The first case contains seasons 1-3 on 18 Discs and the second Seasons 4-5 on 12 Discs. The discs contain no extras other than outtakes and bloopers. Also, there are no subtitles. In other words, this is a bare bones release. The one thing that does bother me a bit is, that the episodes of the first season at least have the traditional 4:3 aspect ration. However, they were filmed in proper 16:9 and on the internet you can find excerpts. This being a rerelease to tie in with the blu ray release, this was a bit of a bummer. But as far as I can tell, the DP kept 4:3 aspect ratio in mind so no important information is lost.Another thing that I have a problem with is the packaging itself. Rather than having the traditional epic pak format with 1-2 discs per "page", some of the disc slots are stackable. So, you have up to 3 or 4 discs on one "page". However since the amount of stackable slots doesn't quite match the number of discs, some discs end up sitting on a stackable slot (meant for 2 discs) alone and end up being a bit lose. This is a minor issue but annoying as you really have to manage your disc placement and since the season 4-5 case would even offer the room for regular single-disc stacks, but they have 4 empty slots on one page and multiple stackable slots on another. The bigger issue was, that pretty much all the discs of season 1 and season 5 were lose in the boxset upon first unboxing. So far I haven't encountered any scratches, but it was a serious shortcoming.Overall, if you don't mind aspect ration, lacking special features and packaging, this is a decent set for just owning the series fairly cheap. However, if you expect more, you shouldn't purchase this set.

Very poor 1st series remastering.
As a whole series I much enjoyed Andromeda but the first season is very badly remastered, hence the 3 stars. The characters appear squashed and quite out of perspective no matter what screen ratio is chosen and quite ruins the viewing experience. I have ordered the first season in their separate boxes [2]. The company responsible for producing the complete boxed set should see what is the result of their remastering before issuing it to the public. The first series I have received as replacement has excellent picture quality and I'm tempted to obtain the rest of the series as originally produced. Shame on the company for ruining this first series which overall is a very enjoyable. The remaining discs in the series are without the problem.

Good But Not Great Some problems to be made aware of.
I have been waiting to buy this set for quite some time now, as the price has been so high for an old show, that I could not justify the cost, so when Amazon had a special price around £40, I took the plunge.Overall I was not disappointed. each season comes in it's own quilty box with a nice medium hard cardboard box to keep the seasons in. (so Far, So Good) As others have said the first two seasons feel like enhanced SD, still very good but not as sharp as season 3 onwards. I feel that whoever put this package together may not have been able to get hold of the original tapes to transfer to Blu ray. (Yes I am aware that this show was a low budget affair recorded to tape not film) My main grip is with the volume on certain episodes which tends to be lower than all the rest, I found myself having to turn the sound up, and down on my surround system depending on which episode I was watching. I also found some movement glitch when looking at movement of the spaceships from time to time. whether this was my 4K TV, or the discs was not clear, but it was definitely there, so felt you needed to be made awair. As others have said you only get bleepers, and outtakes at the end of each season no other extras. At the price I paid I feel this was a good buy, and one I am pleased I made, but at the original price of well over £100 I would have expected more.

Great show, love it!
It's an absolutely great boxset, the show is as brilliant as it ever was, I'm so enjoying watching it all over again. My favourite actor in it is the amazingly gorgeous Steve bacic, i love him and everything he's in, including the guard, which he was wonderful in. The boxset has all five seasons, including behind the scenes footage and the gag reel. Also came within two days of my ordering it, which was perfect.
