Lethally sharp feathers, difficult returns..
Initially felt well made and nice and deep. However, over time you'll notice pin-sharp feathers will start poking through the cover (and you). These are sharp enough to embed in the mattress below it - really really uncomfortable. At this point you'll want to return it and find a policy in place to prevent it - namely that you're not allowed to return it used (i.e. that you've tested it) and if you risk it then they'll wait 14 days for you to pay for return postage or otherwise discard it. Whilst I sympathise with the reasons why such a policy might be in place the fact remains the product is sub-par and useless as a result. You'll notice other reviews here complaining of the same fault, buyer beware.I'll update here should a return be successful but I've a feeling at best I'll get charged a restocking fee or the item will simply be discarded.

Bliss to sleep on
Last January 2017, we took delivery of a Harrison Spinks Somnus bed, supposedly the last word in luxury sleeping, which is what you would have reason to expect as it cost near enough £4,000. Complete and utter rubbish, probably the worst purchase I have ever made. After a few months of really uncomfortable nights, having believed the assurance of the bed shop that the mattresses would become more comfortable with time, and been told by a representative form Harrison Spinks that there was nothing wrong with the bed before he even lay on it, we were at our wits end.Never having come across 'mattress toppers' before - surely a bed is supposed to be comfortable - a chance conversation raised our awareness, so we started looking around. I wanted to avoid memory foam or hollowfibre, preferring natural materials, which was one of the reasons behind buying the Somnus bed, as it is supposed to be packed with wool, cashmere and other 'luxury' fillings - concrete does not appear in the sales blurb, but I reckon there is some in the mattresses as well. A bit of digging uncovered this gem, the modern equivalent of a feather bed.It arrived well before the forecast delivery date, so big plus point there, so we unpacked it and draped it over an airer for a few hours to fluff up. That night we had the first comfortable night's sleep for months (our previous bed had given up with age which was why we changed), and have continued to do so. We just sink into it, but being feathers, they are soft when they compress, and slide over each other so that you don't get hard lumps. It is quite heavy to move, which is noticeable as it does need a shake a couple of times a week to fluff it up - but that is no different to a feather duvet. If you don't want to do this, buy memory foam, but then you lose the advantage of the natural fillings keeping you at an even temperature all year. This has not been the hottest of summers, but as someone who normally feels the slightest heat, sandwiched between this goose feather topper and a 4.5tog goose feather duvet I have been pleasantly comfortable both during the summer and the recent cold spell. All in all, I thoroughly recommend this topper. If your bed is showing its age and becoming a bit uncomfortable, try one of these before splashing out on a new bed - I wish I had.

Makes for a good night's sleep
This does have an odour about it but that it muted as soon as sheets are placed over it - it is really thick and soft and luxurious, however, so is worth putting up with the odour!

Prickly!
Really good value for money and very squishy but the cover is not fine or strong enough and so many feathers are coming out and prickling me through the fitted sheet. Suggest adding a thick mattress protector over the top!
