A champ
We started to get water pooling up near the house during heavy rains, coming up to the door threshold in worst rain last winter. (I think our patio drainage system is gradually clogging up.) I went with the Superior pump because it switches on when the water reaches a certain level, then switches off when the water goes down. In our case, there is a low spot that the water fills up first, so we don't reach flooding before the pump starts. The pump comes on when the water gets deep enough, then continues pumping as the rainwater continues to gather. It pumps really fast, so sometimes shuts off during the rainstorm. But it always switches on when water reachers the specific activation depth. The hose connection fitting was just fine, and our standard garden hose carries the water to our driveway and then down to the street. We have had numerous heavy rains in December and each time the pump performed perfectly. We don't have a lot of leaves, so I can't comment on clogging. This unit was priced on the higher end, but totally worth the price for our situation. It is sold as a pool cover pump, and obviously we are using it for a different case of rainwater removal, but I think it would do an excellent job for a pool cover as well.

It Still Works! Haha
Not proud of the fact that I left this pool cover outside all winter. In Minnesota. Was all set to buy a new or refurb replacement. I figured I might as well flipnthe switch before I actually ordered. To my complete surprise!! It still works. You can see a layer of ice in the photo. Amazing!!Oops. I never sent this review..Oh my. Ok, so we didn’t use the pool for months and I was very lazy this year. Let’s just say I hadn’t cut the pool pump on since May and just left it on the cover until now - mid October. It’s so buried in water you can’t even see it. So, I threw the circuit breaker tonight because, well, it’s minnesota and snow if coming soon. To my shock and happy surprise, IT WORKS (still). Was all Set to buy a new for as punishment thanks for my laziness. I can’t even believe it but I’m happy and relieved. Take from this review what you will. It’s a high quality product.

Stick with a good product
I needed to replace my pool cover pump . instead of getting the same one, I went with something less expensive. When I received it, I realized it wasn't sufficient. I reordered the Superior pump and it works really well. Worth the extra cost for sure!

Superior pumps are JUNK
I purchased this pump at the end of last year as my current pump had gone out after several years use. I choose to try this one since it pumped around 400 more GPH than the old that pumped 1700 GPH. This pump lasted less than a month before I began having problems. We received a heavy rain and when I looked outside the cover was filled to capacity and the pump was not working. I tried another extension cord thinking that could be the problem, it was not. I took the pump cover off wanting to make sure that it was not clogged up, it was not. I kept moving the plunger apparatus up and down and it finally kicked on. I left the cover off to ensure I could get it working in order to get all of the water removed from the pool cover. After an hour or so the water was almost gone so I walked back outside to take a look. With the water nearly off I began to hear an odd noise coming from the pump area. I kept looking trying to identify where or what the noise could be, seemed to sound like a gurgling noise. I noticed the remaining water on the pool cover appeared to be swirling around. Using my extendable pole with my net to slide it closer for examination. As I studied it I could see water squirting from between the pump assembly. The O ring gasket where the pump was put together was either pinched during it's assembly or it has prematurely failed. So now I have two issues with this pump in less than a months time. I'm fairly certain that the O ring gasket was bad from the get go, they typically don't fail that quickly. The plunger assembly is plain old a premature failure due to it being cheaply made. So now when it rains this is the process I have to go through in order to keep the water pumped off when it rains. First off the top cover of the pump has to stay off all of the time or I'll never be able to get it to work. I have to keep the pump near the edge of the pool, once it starts raining and begins to collect water I slide it into the edge of the water. Use my extendable pole to raise and lower the plunger apparatus to get the pump to kick on. So now here is where it gets a little more difficult due to the O ring gasket leaking. It will not pick up the water until I take the opposite end of the water hose that is not attached to the pump and put it into the collected rain water. After about 5 minutes the air bubbles quit bubbling from the hose and will finally start pumping water through. It's like an old timey pump that has to be submerged in water to get it primed and then it will pump the water. Ridiculous amount of work to go through to get water pumped off the pool cover for it be a month old. My wife was finally able to contact the company and they will not do any thing with it. I should have known it was junk the second I took it out of the box. It was half the weight of the one I had previously, not that that's always a tell all but a good indication. Again the only reason I went with this one as a replacement was simply because I thought the extra 400 GPH of water that it pumped extra versus the old one would be beneficial....WAS I EVER WRONG. Do not purchase this pump as they are a cheaply made piece of JUNK!! Since the pool is already open for the year I will wait till closer to Fall and I will go back with the pump I previously had which was a Little Giant. May not pump quite as much water in an hours difference but the reliability pays for it's self over this cheaply made pump not to mention a company that will not stand behind it's product!! SORRY COMPANY/SORRY PRODUCT!!!

Fast pump, but leaves too much water on the cover
Very effective pump, but the float design leaves much more water on the cover than my previous one, a Rule 1800. For some reason Rule has stopped making the 1800 as a pool cover pump. I'm sticking with it, since I suspect all float-based pumps have the same problem, but I worry about the extra weight on my coping all winter.

Great pump well worth the money.
Great pump can’t say enough good things about it. Super quiet, works super fast. The reason I chose this brand and product is because I purchased a 1/4hp pump from them in the past that also works extremely well and seems very reliable. I would definitely buy it again if anything ever went wrong with this original one. I have used it about 5 times already with all of the rain we have had here on Long Island to drain the top of my pool.

Pool Cover Pump
This was to replace my other pump that died just before some HUGE storms came in. I got this just in time. Went out in the rain. Hooked it up and it ran off and on, draining the cover for three straight days. Was worried I was going to loose my big cover. Very expensive. It worked and does it's job.

Great pump! Performs as expected.
Great pump. Performs as expected. One caveat to this is that it must remain upright to function.
