Deeply flawed design, but I was desperate
If you look carefully at the illustration, you'll note that this device can do 3 kinds of slicing to the garlic: a mandolin, a fine grate, and a coarse grate. Unfortunately, I didn't look carefully enough. I was so excited by the ability to coarsely grate (the coarse grating section is last, near where you grasp the grater). I had something identical but much better -- it only had the coarse grater. The problem with having 3 techniques available on 1 small device is that it's very difficult to isolate your motion to just one of the 3 methods. I was about to give up and return it when I realized that if I held it backward, I could effectively isolate the coarse grater (all that I want to use) from the other 2 options by grasping it backward and having my hand cover the annoying mandolin option (doesn't work well) and the equally annoying paste option (also performs poorly). But the coarse grater at the back is good, and is by far the easiest of the 3 options to use because the grating area is relatively large, provided you hold it backward. Sounds weird, I know, but I'm glad I avoided a return with my work-around.

These rubber tube peelers work
I suppose all of these rubber tubes are about as amazingly effective. But, there is no easier or quicker garlic peeling method. Pop in the clove, roll it on the counter a few times with the palm of your hand and presto - out falls a 100% perfectly peeled whole and intact garlic clove. Not smashed and not spread all over your fingers and the counter as with the traditional smash with the flat of a knife chef method. It's so good that once you try it you'll never use anything else.

Best garlic press overall, over time, made in Taiwan means no slave labor
I had this garlic press for years, until I tried to crack a walnut with it. (Don’t do anything this stupid with yours; it is a garlic press, not a nutcracker.). I replaced it with a different press, and have been annoyed ever since. Finally buying another Fante. This Fante press works so well, and is really easy to clean. It makes it very fast to use fresh garlic, start to finish. Also, it was made in Taiwan, which means you can have some assurance that it was not made in Xinjiang with slave labor. (I usually look for Made In USA to make sure I’m not hurting people through my purchase, but Taiwan also has decent labor laws and democracy.)

The BEST Garlic Press; HIGHLY recommended!
Had this same garlic press made exactly the same way by the same company for over 25 years. It finally gave up the ghost and fell apart last month. Very simple design, solid construction. Works perfectly! DO NOT put it in the dishwasher. Hand wash only. Over the years, it inadvertently occasionally went into the dishwasher. This makes the glossy finish become very dull and creates friction on the moving parts. Probably, if it had never gone in the dishwasher ever, it would still be around. I bought 2 this time; one for a good friend.

Learning curve but good
At first I didn’t think it worked well, then I figured out to put my middle finger in the safety guard as I grated. THEN I got nice even shreds of yummy garlic. Don’t use old dry garlic cloves. Big fresh ones are best. Love this little tool. For grating one or two cloves, I don’t bother with the guard. I Always use it when slicing. Its well made and easy to clean with a small brush and hot soapy water.

Excellent way to mince whole garlic cloves without having to remove the outer peel
Excellent way to mince whole garlic cloves without having to remove the outer peel because this peel is removed automatically when clove is pressed through the garlic press crusher. All you have to do then is to remove peel in one piece from crusher and your done. I do recommend though that you clean the crusher tool asap after using, before any extra pieces of garlic that might have been left behind dry because if they dry, it is a little more difficult to clean. Be sure and make use of the small fitted plastic cleaning tool insert that comes with the item to help "poke out" any remaining pieces of garlic that might be stuck in the tiny holes of the crusher. Cleanup is easy if you don't wait and let it dry. Highly recommend this product!

Best garlic press around!
When you press garlic, forget all the others and get this guy. This is the way to press garlic. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. There's a reason the concept and design of this press has been around as long as it had. I had another one which was a heavier metal and this one is lighter, but still does the job. YOu can crus garlic without having to peel and if you're a good cook, you know how to clean it out rather easily - you don't even really need to use the red plastic thingy that comes with it.

Good value
The garlic peeler took a little getting used to. I had a lot of garlic to peel and ordered this one instead of trying to peel each one with a knife. At first, I tried one or two cloves by themselves and it worked okay. I added more the next time to fill the peeler and it worked better. I would definitely recommend using this because it was easy to use and cleans up great.

You get what you pay for
Surprisingly good at peeling garlic. Can't tell if it works better wet or dry - I suspect it's meant to be used dry, but sometimes I find that the garlic clove stays put better when it's wet.

Helpful tool
Helpful when there is a lot of garlic to peel. Helps to loosen. But when I don’t have a lot of garlic to peel, I’m too lazy to take this out.
