Texsport Folding Compact Pick Shovel with Carry Pouch for Camping Backpacking and Gardening

The bag it comes in is junk, super thin, tears easy. The pick is great if you use it for what its made for. I have two of these, one I keep in my RV because it doesn't weigh much and it is perfect for any small digging chore I may have to do, such as leveling for the tires and jacks. The other one I keep in my trapping bucket for setting up coon/cat/fox trap sets. It is light to carry and sturdy enough to dig in the rocky soil where I trap at. This is not an army issue entrenching tool, your not going to dig a two man foxhole with it. I threw the bag away and I keep the handle extension screwed in all the time for both my tools and even after heavy use have had zero problems out of both. I would have given it 5 stars if the bag was a little better.

I'm a little disappointed in this shovel. I bought it for metal detecting. Unlike some others, I had a difficult time breaking through the turf in the backyard. Strange....I'm not sure what the problem could be. I'm not like a wimp or anything, lol. I live in Southern California and the soil is like dried up packed down rock (although the backyard is pretty average as far as hardness and moisture goes). Maybe the quality is inconsistent....I dunno. It should be fine for the beach or if I happen across softer soil. One thing I'll say is that it folds up to be very compact which is really nice. I'll keep it with my other tools and use the pick if need be.

OK, if you order this shovel, be prepared to appreciate its SMALL SIZE! It is tiny. It was NOT made to dig foxholes like the M-1951 Entrenching Tool that I ordered it to replace. The blade is four inches wide and five inches long. NOT MADE FOR HEAVY WORK, but you can probably plant tulip bulbs in your garden with it. I will use it to dig up irons during land surveying reconnaissance, and it will probably be OK for that. Do NOT expect to cut anything with the serrated edge until you sharpen it using an angle grinder. This is a backpacking implement.

I was really excited to get this shovel to go along with my metal detecter. All I really have to say is ehh. It keept folding up on me when I was trying to dig and I got banged up a few times. If you are going to be digging in solid ground I would not suggest this shovel. It you need it for an easy dig , like sand, then it should work just fine for ya...

This is a cool little shovel for the price. You are not going to do any heavy digging with it, but it is perfect for what I needed. My son and I are trying out metal detecting and he needed a small shovel/pick to dig where there is an alert. This shovel is small enough to not be a big deal to carry, yet can chop small roots if needed. Just don't expect too much from it as it is not designed to dig big holes.

Used a few times mostly as a "cat hole" digger. I cary this little tool on my ATV as a multipurpose tool. It's smaller than a typical military style tool and weighs less, fits into just about any fender bag or pouch. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is I have not had it for long enough to say it's going to hold up. So far so good.

Good quality, not like other brands, others are too thin and too weak.After several time use, I found this is not good as before. I had own one before and much stronger than current one.

Ordered my Texsport Mini Folding Pick Shovel from Amazon/Prime on the 11 June 2014 for $12.71 USD ... As Im living in New Zealand I payed $11.73 USD for Shipping & Handling .... Today being the 26 June I finally received my order .... Upon opening the package and assembling the tool I found that the "screw lock"that holds the shovel and pick head is badly stripped, ... out of the box !!! ... Im now left with a expensive "Shovel/Pick/ "Clicker Toy"... Thank you Prime for screwing me over..... !!! Im gonna use the carry-pouch as a toilet-paper stuff-sack tho ....lol.
