The Complete Sackett Family Saga

L'amour worked hard at his trade and he worked hard to broaden his label as "just a writer of western pulp fiction". Granted, that is how he started, but he tried to write other historical novels - about England, Europe, and the Far East with which he was fascinated. His publishers failed to see a market for those efforts so they were not published except The Walking Drum published just before his passing in 1988.I recently bought the collection of his "Sackett" novels which track, more or less, the period from 1600 to 1900 in the Sackett Family, both in the US and England. They are well worth the read if you like the L'Amour style.I wrote this review because I found a very useful volume that I think adds a great deal to the Sackett story and to the L'Amour legacy - he wrote a companion volume to the Sackett novels which describes the characters in each novel, has slightly better maps, and details other interesting items - I recommend it to all who are interested in the Sackett packet!The other thing I have learned about L'Amour is that he went to all the locations aabout whih he wrote, they were/are real places, and many of the characters - the secondary ones - were real people. This companion volume is well worth the investment.
