Eye candy for storm chasers and meteorologists.
This book is pretty much what it says it is. It is in no uncertain terms a huge picture book of panoramic photos of storm phenomena with the vast majority being those of its namesake supercell thunderstorms (these are the largest and most powerful and violent thunderstorms on Earth characterised by persistent large scale rotation and incredibly prolonged duration. They are also the only storms with the potential to produce the most destructive tornadoes. They are also notable for their incredibly striking appearance and the dramatic meteorological events that ensue).Other phenomena as photographed include lightning, cloud formations and even a few photos of tornadoes. Even the photos of the supercells bear considerable diversity within themselves with those of wall clouds, motherships, anvils, beaver tails, striations on the storm tower and the characteristic foreboding blue/green illumination indicative of the storm achieving the propensity of turning tornadic. There is very little text apart from some introductions, quotes and author biographies in brief therefore it is not really a book for those interested in learning about the meteorological details of these storms in such vivid context. The photos are visually impressive taken and you have here a smorgasbord of incredibly striking storm structures that will make you want to sit down and just stare in awe. Although I feel anyone could potentially appreciate what is presented here, I feel that this would be particularly of instrumental significance to a storm chasers, photographers, meteorologists and those who like myself are fascinated by violent storms. Being a musician myself as well, there may also be potential inspiration for album artwork to be found."A picture is worth a thousand words" certainly rings true here.
