Queen Latifah heads an "excellent ensemble" cast in this "warm, funny, empowering" (New York Post) comedy from the producers of Barbershop and the producer of Bringing Down the House! Co-starring Alicia Silverstone, Andie MacDowell, Alfre Woodard, Mena Suvari and Djimon Hounsou - and featuring Kevin Bacon in a hilarious performance - Beauty Shop "will slap a smile on your face and keep it there" (Premiere)! When Jorge (Bacon), the egotistical boss at a posh salon, pushes his star stylist, Gina(Latifah), a hair too far, Gina leaves and opens a beauty shop of her own. Inheriting an opinionated group of stylists, a colorful clientele and a sexy upstairs neighbor, Gina proves that you can't keep a good woman down - and you can't keep a shopful of outrageous women from speaking their minds!

Queen Latifah roll is amazing
I really loved how she had determination and an idea to run with and she did and took chances that a lot of us don’t do because we’re too fearful of what will happen. More of a adult or 14 and above movie all the actresses and actors are really good at portraying their parts

Who Can Resist the Queen
This movie, which is a spin-off of the Barbershop film series, is set in Atlanta. It has a sassy feminine vibe as opposed to the intimate men's club vibe. This movie varies from the others in that it doesn't try to be political or make any bold statements. It is less intense than the other movies but has more laughs. I have to admit that I laughed nonstop. The acting in this film is excellent, and the story is well-written. The rating is a little deceiving, in my opinion, as this is more of an adult or older teen movie. Without a doubt, I'll watch this movie again.

not PG
So the story line, etc is good, and being from Atlanta has good memories, etc. but this is NOT a PG movie. The rating should be closer to at minimum PG-18, or mature audience. It does have its place for a certain audience.

Funny, but not funny
A Comedy? I don't know... I laughed out loud a couple of times.I guess every possible Black stereotype and generalization is supposed to be hilarious. Let's see, trite, shallow conversation; nasty talk; drama; hoochies; male sex gods; angry, aggressive, mouthy women; etc., etc.White stereotypes, too, (which are not nearly as damaging or dangerous). Let's see, the blonde barbie witch, the unhappy housewife, the weird male, the corrupt government guy, and the cute, sweet, dumb, country girl. Oh, and White girl gets the guy, of course! (Because they understand Black men so much better than do Black women.) Yeah, it ran the stereotype gamut, covered the whole spectrum.I fast forwarded through a lot of the movie that I found boring and objectionable. Sex, sex, sex. Body parts, innuendo, provocative dress, dirty talk, situational, behavioral. It was a little ridiculous. Do people really live and think like that? I guess promiscuity/immorality is supposed to be very funny.I didn't find any of the characters likeable except for the little girl. The only character that didn't seem completely self-absorbed was played by Alicia Silverstone.I grew up going to Black beauty shops. We always laughed a lot, but we talked about family, community, God, Jesus, food, hairstyles and care; music,... The only glimpse of that culture I really saw in this movie was the citation of Maya Angelou's poem And Still I Rise.

An easy fun movie
Remember seeing this in the theater, just going on the strength of Queen Latifah. Now that I've seen the Babershop movies, it's still really good. This movie makes me want to visit Atlanta and definitely make better friends with my coworkers.Alfre Woodard, Andie MacDowell, Djimon Hounsou, Kevin Bacon, and Alicia Silverstone help boost this delightful movie.

Beauty Shop
I am a big fan of Queen Latifah and rate Last Holiday, The Bone Collector and Bringing Down The House as great films with great performances by her. However, I was slightly disappointed with Beauty Shop. Even though Latifah's character and role in the film is well acted and funny, the back up cast do let it down a little and there isn't too much of a strong storyline. The basic idea is that Latifah decides to open her own hair salon after being unappreciated and taken advantage of by her boss (Kevin Bacon). That's basically it. You see the ups and downs that she goes through, but the actual main parts that make the story come across as rushed - a lot of the dialogue is generalised to the day to day life in the salon, and this takes up the majority of the film. The interesting parts just aren't elaborated enough. The ending hasn't exactly got a twist, or not something I would call a twist, but it does finish the film off nicely. However, this "twist" along with the other significant parts of the film should have had more put into them.Overall, Beauty Shop is quite watchable and funny, with a couple of laugh out loud moments. Unfortunately though, it does seem to plod along and loses the significant storylines into the background.

Beauty Shop.
This is a good movie. Queen Latifah plays a professional hairdresser who's boss tries to keep her down, because he doesn't want her to get any ideas of starting her own business up, as she is his top hair stylist. They fall out and she ends up walking out. You will have to watch the film and see how things unfold.
