You need it and its cheap.
This stuff helped me out of a jam. I let my pH get waaaaay high and I had scale form on our hot tub surface after a water change last fall when I forgot to add scale control. I actually did 3 things to get rid of it. First thing was add pH minus and this scale control. 2nd was lowering the water temp since calcium is absorbed back into water faster at lower temps (didn't know that, thanks google). 3rd was using a stiff bristle brush on the hot tub surface. The reason for the 5 stars is: 1) price. 2) I am positive this saved me some elbow grease. 3) I know this would have PREVENTED the scale had it been added at the proper time.
