Great book full of advises on how to look for a job.

This is a quite good addition to the Business English library and could serve as the basis of a short standalone course.

I recently had to get a new job, which meant writing applications, attending interviews, and then all the emails and phone calls surrounding that.I followed this author's advice, and it really worked. The result was that I was invited for several interviews at different places, and ended up being offered a really fantastic position, which was just what I had been looking for. I even turned down one interview as I decided I didn't need to attend it any more. This all happened in the space of a few weeks.With suggestions from this author I managed to do some things differently, which might have stopped me being so successful in the past (e.g. particular things to say or not say in interviews).So overall I am extremely grateful and I now have the job I was aiming for - thank you Colm Downes!I highly recommend this book - really worth buying it.

This book was easy to use and has a huge amount of useful information and advice. It takes you through each step of getting a job. It goes from first thinking about your skills all the way to after the interview, which I don't think a lot of other books do.Even though it is quite thin (but not heavy so it is easy to carry in your bag), each page is full of information. The text is quite small, so there is a lot of information in a small space. At the same time it is quite easy to read, with different coloured boxes, activities, and examples. I haven't used the CDs yet but they look interesting.It has exercises to help you think about your application, different ways to write CVs, cover letters, interviews (including 'advanced interview techniques'), and what to do after applying, whether you are accepted or not.A brilliant all-in-one book to help get a job. It definitely made me feel more confident about all aspects of job hunting.

I purchased "Cambridge English for Job-Hunting" on a whim and I am glad it has turned out to have been a fantastic investment.Having worked for the same company for a while, I needed to re-do my CV completely, this has proved to be just the book to help. I have found it absolutely invaluable as reference source and as a guide.It is designed like a teaching aid, so it has really clear and simple instructions (in plain English). The CD's make it even more straightforward to use providing the kind of 1-2-1 help; one could only really hope for from a career advisor or mentor.I cannot recommend the book enough and to be honest, I think it is destined to become an essential part, of not only the students "tool-kit", but any aspiring career-changer or redundancy victim out there.This book will certainly enhance your career and help multiply your opportunities. Buy it!

As a communication skills trainer working in Belgium, I often work with non-native speakers who are looking for a first job, or a change in career. This book has proved invaluable: it is practical and easy to use. There is no superfluous information, and nothing is missing. I particularly appreciate the way in which information is 'shown' through natural dialogue, rather than 'told' didactically. The non-native and regional accents on the CDs are authentic. My trainees love it, and so do I.

This is a great book! I was looking for something to help me with an interview, and this was worth trying! It is full of tips and real life examples that helped me focus and feel more prepared for the interview. It also helped to define what I want and am able to do. I definitively recommend it.
