In the final season of the critically acclaimed, award-winning drama, resilient nurse Sarah Nordmann (Marta Dusseldorp, Janet King) finally marries wealthy landowner George Bligh (Brett Climo, Snowy River: The McGregor Saga). But as Sarah takes her place as lady of Ash Park, George’s mother, Elizabeth (Noni Hazlehurst, Little Fish), feels pushed out of the household that she ran for decades. George’s son, James (David Berry, Outlander), returns from abroad to start a business in Sydney, while his daughter, Anna (Abby Earl, The Great Mint Swindle), lives in Hawaii with her sister-in-law (Arianwen Parkes-Lockwood, Underbelly), hiding a secret from the rest of the family. As the Blighs journey back to each other, they face tragedies, betrayals, and new beginnings that will challenge their relationships and change the courses of their lives. Set in 1959 Australia, A Place to Call Home blends “A-grade period drama” (The Guardian, UK) with “pointed social critique” (The New York Times). The phenomenal cast also includes Craig Hall (The Doctor Blake Mysteries), Frankie J. Holden (Something in the Air), Dominic Allburn (Jack Irish), and Sara Wiseman (Rake).

A 1950's Post WW2 backdrop with all the elements of current day society
As much as things change, things do stay the same. 1950's "wholesomeness" used loosely, as we are still the same human beings attempting to be human and failing miserably at best. Characterizations were spot on and engaging. Everyone played their role with empathy, apathy, and cathartic emotions. Found myself crying, rather sobbing, especially during season 6. Having watched tons of film over several decades and as much international film that was available over the years, this series left an indelible beat upon my heart. In fact my view of many issues broadened as a result of watching this series. Nothing new under the sun...Thank you.

Such an enjoyable series. Great characters and acting.
I enjoyed this series completely. I was sorry it ended!!! I know I will be watching it again and again. I watched all six seasons. I wish I could find another series just as great as this. I’ve been an avid reader since learning to read in second grade but I’m now losing my sight due to a progressive disease. I love books and DVDs set in 19 century Englis life and have as library of both. I’ve now developed the same interest in Australia life. I love Acorn offerings. So glad I found this wonderful series.

And you thought you had troubles . . .
Perhaps the most absorbing, well-written and well-cast soap opera in TV history. A brilliant ensemble cast breathing life into a series of mishaps, malaprops and malice that all but defies the imagination. And most all of them happen to a single family! When Series 6 is done and all the loose ends are tied, the feeling is one of sadness that we'll be seeing and hearing no more from the distress-prone Blighs. Watching them suffer was such a wicked pleasure. Kudos to Marta Dusseldorp for a performance that would have won many an award stateside, as well as to Noni Hazelhurst, Bret Climo, Craig Hall, Frankie Holden, Deborah Kennedy and the rest of the wonderful cast. A gem to treasure from start to finish.

Gets woker and woker as it moves along.
Self-righteous and preachy about antisemitism, homophobia, and women's rights.

Superb Series
A very satisfying conclusion to a superb series, made all the better by the fact that the series is the autobiography of the central character, Sarah. The book is "A Place To Call Home" by Samantha Swanson. Not to be a spoiler, but the end of the final episode brings the story up to the present day, resolving many of the conflicts which run throughout the series. The series is currently (December 2019) being shown on PBS in the San Francisco area by KQED+, on Tuesday evenings. I highly recommend the entire series.

I am crying so hard at the ending. I have loved this series from the beginning and hated to hear it would end. I've just watched the last season and it is my most favorite of all. I have loved all the actors and hope I can fall in love with more work of theirs. For now, I have to process this loss. I will miss this show so much!!!

Series devolves as it moves along. The last season is garbage.
*spoiler alert* The acting is good. The setting is beautiful and the classic cars and clothes are fun. I love the general idea of the show - watching people deal with the aftermath of WWII. Unfortunately, many of the characters become so irritatingly whiny and self-righteous that the show unravels as it moves along until the final season is simply unwatchable. The main character, Sarah Adams, was always incredibly irritating. She's unbelievably pompous and self-righteous and the writers make her bizarrely omniscient at times. (James tries to commit suicide and desperately doesn't want his dad to know and yet Sarah never suspects his dad might have been abusive or even the catalyst for his suicide attempt?) Other characters only become irritating as the series progresses. Anna started out as a typical impetuous teenager, but by the later seasons when she is an adult her constant shrieking and whining and insisting that all of society is wrong and only she is virtuous and correct is like fingernails on a chalkboard. It's also sad to see George devolve into a mere accessory item for Sarah. His character seems to just wither away into a sad, limp, little toady of a man, devoid of all character and charm and spirit. It's similarly difficult to see James abandon his family and become a frivolous European playboy. Finally, I found the focus on religion tiresome at the end. It's unfortunate because I found the elements of Judaism portrayed in the show to be very interesting at first and they served to move the plot along, but by the last season the religion feels less authentic and less plot driven and more like propaganda or evangelism. In short, the first few seasons were fun, if occasionally marred by annoying characters, but the series devolves steadily until the last season, which is pure rubbish.
