Mr. Lucky

A Cary Grant Classic
Cary Grant at his best, as usual. And Lorraine Day is knock out even by today's standards. Charles Bickford gives a great supporting performance. A lot of great one liners. Grant had a number of wonderful movies during the time period this one was made and Mr. Lucky is one of them.

Rarely seen Cary Grant film
Unlike many of his poplar films from the 1930s and 1940s, "Mr. Lucky" is a rarely aired Cary Grant film. I don't know if this is because it's just not in the Turner Classic Movies rotation or because it's not as splashy as (for example) "Bringing Up Baby", "The Philadelphia Story" or "My Favorite Wife" - maybe a little of both. It also could be because his co-star, Laraine Day, is no Irene Dunne or Katharine Hepburn. Regardless, she's quite charming and capable in this type of film (she is also quite good in Hitchcock's "Foreign Correspondent"). I bought the DVD to add to my Cary Grant collection.

Classic Cary Grant.
Great film. I rented this for my wife and I to watch on our "date night" since we both enjoy the Hollywood Classics. "Mr. Lucky" is an overlooked gem. I recommend this as an intro to Cary Grant if you've never had the opportunity to see any of his films.

What's not to love:
Cary Grant plays a hustler that winds up getting hustled himself! Not going to go into detail, but it's typical Grant humor with a love story woven in, and a side story about the war effort to boot! Great movie!!

Cary Grant in a serious role
I think this is my favourite film of Cary Grant. Different from his suave urban self, he is a cocky smart aleck who needs a sharp lesson in manner, which he gets pretty quickly from the very posh heroine. Then promptly falls for her, as she does him. Remember most of Cary's movies come from a different time so don't expect a 2013 film. This is of the 1940s and I love it.
