Father Marquette and the Great Rivers (Vision Books)

I couldn’t put it down. I bought this book for my grandson but wanted to read it myself first. I really enjoyed it. Haven’t heard yet how the grandson likes it. There are multiple religious references to God and Mary but why wouldn’t there be?

This book was an easy read. It was extremely amazing the ability of Father Marquette to learn all the native american languages that he did. His bravery, knowlegde of the Indians, and his thirst for teaching the word of God pulled him through many tough times. His travels into this pristine unknown area (except to the native americans that is)make this book hard to put down.

The inclusion of historical facts (dates and places) makes this book an interesting read for adults and children. I found the author's grammatical style a bit hard to follow, though. I very accustomed to reading books (even novels) aloud for my boys, and I stumbled over many sentences in reading this one.

It was a slow start which is not good for kids. But still interesting. Got much better as it went along.

I liked the story of Father Marquette and his journey to travel the great waterways and preach God's Word to the Indians. It was interesting and educational. However, it was written rather blandly. I recommend it to all ages for it is perfectly clean. I liked it while I read it, but I don't think I'll read it again. God bless!

This is an interesting biography of Father Marquette who combined his devotion to God with an avid interest in geographic discovery.It is a story told from the point of view of a devout missionary.

While this is an interesting tale of the adventures, travels and hardships of Fr Marquette and his companions, it is not clear how much is based on true facts. The book appears to be realistic and does explain some of the facts the one would imagine to be plausible.
