Highly Recommend for Single Mom's, Teachers, and Doctors
Adorable drawings will delight your child as this story introduces the complicated concept of in vitro fertilization, and a mother's choice to conceive and raise a child on her own. For very young children, you might choose to skip over some of the more complex terms and just read this book to share a mom's joy of having a child. In the story, the mother tries to find the perfect husband, and the illustrations made me laugh out loud as each one wasn't quite the right match. (I don't want to spoil it, so I won't say much more.)As your child gets older, you can explain (read) the details of exactly how Mom was able to get pregnant on her own. Only the basics of this procedure are covered, and the words egg, sperm, womb, and embryo are introduced to your child's vocabulary. There is a nice little math like picture diagram to show how the baby is created. I think this is a wonderful story to explain to a child why there is no father in the home, yet he or she is still loved. It's really not just a book for single moms to read to their children, but a book that teachers might have in schools to explain the diversity of today's families and the choices they make. School is usually where children first realize their immediate family might be different from others around them. This also might be the perfect gift for a doctor's office, pediatrician, or an IVF waiting area. I would think that many new moms don't even know books like this exist, and this book will reassure them that there are simple ways to explain complicated topics. Highly recommend!

This was a bit of a disappointment. Not well written and the translation should have been done by someone with English as a first language. However my daughter enjoyed it not that she understood message behind it. The illustrations are lovely.

My daughter is a product of donor insemination and I laughed so hard at this book. We both love it! I felt my dating history was echoed in the struggles of this squirrel in a way I had never thought to relate to a rodent. I still giggle when I read it. I have recommended this one to my SMBC groups and highly recommend it for all single moms by choice. I may be reading this one to her First grade class to explain things. The fertility doctor actually reminded me of mine too. So amazing.

Book for SMBC mamas and donor conceived children
My children love this book. My son.calls it the donor book because we get to talk about my wish to have them and their reason for being here and also they get to know about their bio dad although the person is just a donor. They feel special to have this person because like my son says “he gave mama a special gift”

A great book for donor moms. There's comedic parts that make it a light fun yet sweet book to read for kids of all ages.
