Excellent piece of kit, recalling any meeting, lecture or revision notes from pencasting!
Excellent piece of kit, any meeting I now go to makes it easy to recall exactly what has been said, only needing to write keywords every so often, the pen cast and software makes your notetaking so easy and useful.I have also seen it used for educational purposes, language translation, and I have even used the piano app on the pen, very entertaining.I would recommend that if you write a lot of notes that you have a printer that has a proper prost script 3 printer language, otherwise you will need to pay out for special paper, as you can print notebooks out at home from the livescribe website!

Use your favourite search engine to research the display issues with these pens. It's a great concept and a really useful device if you need to make plenty of notes. However, after 2-3 years the display ceases to work. Check the manufacturers Fb page and you will find plenty of other complaints which the manufacturer simply does not address. Save your money.

Same as my previous 8Gb Echo Pen from 2010, but hopefully with a better screen
I didn't purchase my replacement pen directly as it was done through my university, this is a quick review intended for others also looking to replace their previous 'Echo' 8Gb.I had the previous 'Echo' Pen 8Gb, purchased in 2013 manufactured in 2010 I believe, and fell foul of the common screen dimming problem, as well as a usb port that was on the blink. As it was out of warranty(Livescribe wouldn't fix, replace or discount) and insurance, the only option was to buy a replacement.I was warned off the Wifi 'Sky' Pen for being buggy and awful. It also doesn't use the Livescribe/Echo desktop software, but requires Evernote (I didn't ever quite determine if the subscription was included, or a tiny size was included but you had to pay monthly to be able to use it) which most reviews said had awful limitations like not being able to group pages together into the notebook they came from and not being able to share PDFs with audio.Although the new Livescribe 3 Pen does support audio recording, it's not built into the pen so you have to have a smart device (e.g. phone/tablet) paired to the pen and take the audio recording on that. This wasn't suitable for me as my phone battery is limited enough already, and the whole point of the digital/audio pen for me is that I have a physical disability and struggle with standard notetaking already so juggling two devices isn't going to help that.So ideally I just wanted a replacement 'Echo'. The 'Pro Edition' part threw me to start off, but as far as I can tell this 2015 'Echo' is an identical replacement for my 2010 model. It works just the same with my Echo Desktop, and aside from the nib being a little bit 'clicky' when I write (which was solved by rotating it slightly), and actually being able to see what's on the screen again, I've not noticed anything different*. Hopefully the new release lives up to its name of not having the screen dimming problem anymore, and even if it does Livescribe extended their warranty to 3 years to combat specifically this for 'Echo'/'Sky' pens purchased in 2015 or later (please check their website to confirm this).Aside from having to pay for the replacement, the only other downside is that there's no support whatsoever to transfer your old files across to the new pen. The two pens register as separate libraries in Echo Desktop so there's no confusion with me transferring Notebook 1's over again, but as with archiving, once it's off the pen it's off for good and there's no going back.*One thing not directly related to the pen, I'm not sure how outdated I am with this but my previous set of Livescribe A4 textbooks usefully used to have playback controls printed on every page (Jump to, 0 - 100%, Bookmark). The current books don't anymore which is a real pain - on each page you get pause/record, the 123 shortcut symbols, and a few other symbols not supported by the 'Echo', and then a bookmark slotted into the paper holder at the front with all of the controls on.

Rubbish display.
I agree with the other comments about the display. I bought mine in 2012 and it was fine. I boxed it when I fin shed my exams. I recently wanted to use it only to find the display is dead. Litescribe don't want to know me and it doesn't seem possible to self replace.I will now use a notepad and my iPhone phone scanner along with a voice recorder. What a shame as when it works it's good. But way to expensive to throw away after a couple of years of little use.Not fit for purpose springs to mind.
