Supports 5 Strings
I used this for a 4-string banjolele in need of a tailpiece. I had to use my own L-bracket, curved washer, and nut for installation. The tailpiece is great in both looks and function.

Replacement for Banjo No Knot Tailpiece
I bought this to replace the No Knot on my Gold Tone Banjo. I had broke off one of the metal hooks on the original. A couple of hooks were loose and rotating in the one that came with the banjo after a year of use. These are great. They fit like to original, except, the screw was not long enough. I was able to reuse the old screw in place of the one that came with this. These are stamped with the No Knot 1901 Patent on the face. A nice touch to this classic banjo tailpiece.I am glad that these are made and sold on Amazon. The local music stores are charging twice the price that is listed here.

Works great for 4 strings using ball end strings
I like to use ball end strings. I have a bunch around for guitar so it’s convenient. But I got a new Irish tenor 4 string and it had this exact tailpiece with only 4 string loop holders on it. So I found this one that looks exactly the same but has 5. The ball ends of the strings go between those and this one with 5 loop end holders is perfect because it has 4 spaces for the ball ends. Spaced perfectly for 4 string.

Somewhat crude copy of the original
There are a lot of versions of the classic “No-Knot” tailpiece out there, and some get the details better than others. This one, which is distributed by Saga, is probably the most common, but also the crudest. It has sharp edges, the slots are too narrow, and the posts aren't quite staked in straight to the bracket. The plating is thick to cover up roughness in the parts. At around twelve bucks it’s pretty cheap, but if you shop around you can find really well made versions for twenty dollars or so.

It does the job
This tail piece has great workmanship, looks nice and is also inexpensive. However, the slots in the pins are too shallow to allow use of strings with a bead on the end. I put loops in the strings and put them around the pins to string it. I used this tailpiece on a new banjo ukulele and it works well. I added a picture of this installation to the site.ADDENUM: After catching my wrist on the string endS a couple of times, I decided to deepen the grooves with a hacksaw blade and put the beads on the strings. This worked well. It also looks a lot better (cleaner) than the loops around the pins. If Golden Gate would just make the pin grooves about 1/16" deeper, this would be a perfect little tailpiece. As it is mine will probably rust in time because making the grooves deeper removed the nickel plating in the grooves.

Wonderful tailpiece.
Really great tailpiece. I would recommend this for anyone who wants to use nylon strings. It installs really easily. The only difficulty is that the space between the post is a little small, making it difficult to put the strings on, but with a little patience that is easily overcome.
