Great introduction to Astrophotography
Philips Astrophotography With Mark Thompson The Essential Guide to Photographing the Night Sky by TVs Favourite Astronomer Paperback – 3 Nov 2014Philips have been in the business of publishing astronomical books for some 50 years and have already provided two of the best books on the selection of binoculars and telescopes. This book looks at the key requirements for taking images of the nightsky , the stars , the planets , the sun – using equipment ranging from film to digital ( DSLR’s , digicams , smart phones and the like) in a ( relatively) simple manner. There is some mathematics which neatly justify which equipment should be considered but Mark Thomson walks you through the options of equipment , recording devices and the possible targets to photograph in a thorough , yet comprehensible way) .Amazing how much information is crammed into the 160 odd pages. Mark also concentrates on the real problem issues to be solved and offers many real life solutions. A key issue is the (apparent motion of the stars deep sky object and planets with time ( actually the earth) and how to compensate for it with the necessary long exposures.. Certainly and excellent starter guide for novices which will take one through to obtaining ( hopefully) amazing results. This covers options both with and without telescopes. Details of how to process / optimise digital images using available software on computers , are discussed.Great for those considering or starting on the trail of taking astronomical images.Rating ( personal ) 5 stars

Great book!
Great book for anyone interested in taking images of the night skies. Covers all aspects, from the gear you need (not just the expensive stuff), setting it up correctly, tips on settings and then processing the pictures you've taken, to bring out those sneaky hidden photons!

Buyers guide?
Whilst a good book my husband found it somewhat disappointing in that the author concentrates on buying equipment. He wanted a book to assist in using existing camera (bridge) and iPhone for afocal and prime photography with his existing telescope.Otherwise book content is informative but did not fulfil needs. He eventually found some good articles on the web - maybe there is a niche for a book relating to these needs? He certainly will not be replacing his current camera and scope to use this book fully! It will however remain a potentially useful reference source.

Not saying it's the best guide but worth a read
Not saying it's the best guide but worth a read. As with all these guide's the best thing to do is use it as a basis for your own efforts.

Not a great book. Too much space spend on telescopes and not enough time on cameras. There are better book out there.
