A great resource - simple but effective
Adam Boxer, has done a great service for teachers of GCSE Chemistry, not only has he produced this book but he has selflessly shared a whole series of workbooks for GCSE Chemistry on his wordpress blog ‘A Chemical Orthodoxy’.Boxer also devised a retrieval roulette: 'a simple system to embed regular retrieval practice into their lessons' (check out his blog for further details). This book could be seen as a physical manifestation of the retrieval roulettes. This book like others in the series follows the same format: a set of usually 12 questions on a particular topic and an answer key, a tracker and a list of the questions with blanks for students to complete the answers. These they can then self-check using the answer key. A simple but effective format.Suggestions for the next edition: Separate out the higher tier questions on separate pages Have in addition quizzes that cover several different topics on one page. Produce a photocopiable version. If you are studying GCSE Chemistry do yourself a favour and get a copy; if you are teaching GCSE Chemistry follow the author on twitter as well @adamboxer1 - and check out the #cogscisci hashtag.

User friendly
Very good format. Really like questions and answers too. Very good for revision of basic terminologies.

Not recommended
Really poor value for money. The questions are okay (I’m not impressed with its answer to what is a molecule though) but there are equally good, if not better, resources freely available that still allow students to do retrieval practice e.g. search for ‘chemistry paper 1 knowledge builder’ online.
