Find leaks in hot tub
This dye is fluorescent so it works best at night with a black light flashlight as it glows in the dark. Not harmful to pump or circulation. It soon dissipates after time.

Definitely visible
Not sure what the other reviews are talking about, this product is easy to view in daylight and looks pretty cool. Works great, will update later on the removal process. My pool is about 10k gallons and I used two red solo cups worth of product instead of the entire gallon to track water flow and check for leaks.

Saved me time and money when trying to find an Air Conditioner drain line leak.
This dye saved me so much time and money when trying to diagnose a leak with my AC drain line. It quickly showed me the source of the leak while making the repair quick and efficient while showing me little damage was done during the leak saving me hours of inspections. I may use it in the future in the Florida heat to make sure drain lines are cleared after vacuum and there are no other obstructions.

Very visible, but not so UV reactive
The dyes looks great! In the sunlight it seems particularly noticeable. However, doing side by side comparisons between a flashlight and a UV flashlight, shone into a 1:12,000 dilution, doesn't yield any noticeable difference in visibility. I tried using this to find leaks in my hot tub, by adding a cup or a few to the full tub, and hoping that it would stain the foam insulation where it leaked. Even though the water looked quite red in the tub, neither the red nor any UV fluorescence was noticeable in leaked fluid. Perhaps with much, much higher dye concentration this plan could work. Still trying to dig out foam and find the leaks :/

NO! Not for large in-ground pools
NOT FOR INGROUND POOLS! We read the directions, added the product as directed and then watched as our entire pool turned purple. No way to find a leak. I think you would have to have a large tear that was sucking water hard for this stuff to work. It’s been 6 days now, the pool water is still a dark pink color, and even though it is a pretty color, it is not how you want your pool water to look. We’ve back-washed and rinsed, shocked and used clarifier. Some product did get on the cement pool skirt and it did wash off, so for one star I’ll give them the part where they say it is non-staining.

Good color but you really need more running/rushing water for actual leak detection
I purchased the Green Gobbler Red Water Tracing and Leak Detection Dye hoping it would help pinpoint a slow leak in my pool liner. While it certainly delivers on color, it completely fails at doing what the product claims. The dye mixed easily in water and created a strong, bright red tint that was easy to see, but when I tried to use it for leak detection it simply spread everywhere instead of pulling toward the suspected hole. Following the directions carefully, I turned off the pool pump, made sure the water was still, and slowly released a small amount near the suspected leak. Instead of drifting toward the hole as other detection dyes do, this one just dispersed evenly in the water and colored everything pink. After several tries in different spots the result was the same each time. It made my pool look like a strawberry smoothie but provided zero indication of where the leak was located. For comparison, I have used smaller bottled leak detection dyes from pool supply stores before, and those clearly pulled toward the leak area when applied correctly. This gallon product is more about tinting large bodies of water for visibility tests, not pinpointing leaks. The label mentions tracing and detection but in reality it behaves more like a coloring agent than a diagnostic tool. On the positive side, the pigment is strong and easy to clean out with a water change or filter cycle, and it does not seem to stain surfaces. However, for anyone expecting to actually find a liner leak, this is not the right product. It’s fine if you need to color water for demonstration or plumbing tests, or for rushing water issues, but completely ineffective for pool leak detection.

The Color: Redder Than My Embarrassment When I Realized the Leak Was My Fault 🔴😳
When they say “red water tracing,” they mean RED. This isn’t a subtle little pink tint—this is full-on crime scene levels of red. The first time I used it, I thought I had accidentally summoned a horror movie in my sink. But hey, at least I knew exactly where the leak was!

Safe some money and buy this!
I am a professional pool installer and this is a wonderful deal. This cost less than anything you can buy in a pool store and if you own a pool you will have leaks/ it’s great to have on hand at all times. I leave a sample with all my pool customers and tell them where to buy it.
