It Smells Rancid
I had this duck weed for 3 days so I wish I had it longer for a better review. But the short time I had it while it did stink bad I thought it looked great in my above ground pond. The reason I had it for such a short amount of time is because it rained and my small plants floated away. I tried salvaging them but it rained for days. I have very very few of the original plants but the ones left while very few seem to be doing good. I will probably buy this again and take more precautions for rain. Also the smell, it smells like rancid poop and I cannot stress that enough. The smell faded now maybe because I have so few or maybe because its outside but the package did attract flies in seconds.

Rotten duckweed
When I received the package today it was brown duckweed and it was very smelly, there were smalls snails in it too, and I can’t return the product nor can I use it with my fish. It is currently in a separate tank to try to filter out all the bad duckweed. I’m very disappointed.

Super tiny
Update: these teeny tiny plants are super prolific. It hasn’t been a month and these things have gone absolutely crazy now I have to keep my aquarium light on low. I can’t just remove some because the baby shrimp are nesting in them. When the seller says micro, they really mean micro. These are super Duper tiny. They arrived in a bubble envelope and sealed up in a Ziploc, all smooshed up. I was disappointed when I saw the green mush in the corner of the ziplock. When I put them in the water, many of the roots were floating separate from the tiny plants. There were many dead and rotted plants in the zip lock, I guess because shipping took 6 days. I wasn’t about to count 500 but I’m hoping that most of them will survive and grow.

Healthy happy plants
Plants arrived faster than expected. Mailer arrived ripped open, but plant container was intact, and well sealed. Plants were healthy. Of course, there was some smell, but that was to be expected. Growing well in pond.

WORMS
I wish I'd taken a photo before throwing the whole mess away, but I received living duckweed, along with a million worms. I have no idea what kind of worms they are, but they were tiny and red and not anything I wanted in my turtle tank.I ended up with one under my fingernail while trying to dump the mess out into a smaller container and the number of worms was such that the few drops of water I did get out gave about a dozen tiny writhing threads. Glad I didn't dump right into the tank because for all I know they're parasitic. I washed my hands under scalding water with several pumps of soap. Still feel itchy.Even through the sealed bag it smelled like rot, but I didn't want to judge on that because of the tiny leaves. I didn't realize it was probably also due to dying worms until I saw one squiggle as I held the bag open. I thought the red streaks were just vegetation matter!I am completely squicked out. I do not recommend this product. I feel like this was possibly gathered from a random swamp and possibly could have really hurt my pet turtle, since I have no idea what they were.

Smells absolutely rancid and had a dead snail in it
It smells absolutely horrible and I’m not sure any of these will survive. It smells absolutely terrible and I’m airing out the whole house since the smell has permeated everywhere. Most of it ended up in the trash because of the smell

To clarify other comments..
The duckweed came in a nearly flat little envelope inside a ziplock baggie. The temperature was in the 40's so it survived nicely. 500? No, more like 50,000!I noticed 2 major negative comments in other reviews that need to be clarified.--First, some buyers were disappointed in the size of the plants and the fact they didn't grow larger. This duckweed is Lemna minor, the world's smallest flowering plant. It is a perfect size for smaller fish to eat. Do not confuse this with "giant duckweed" (Spirodela polyrhiza) or one of the other 2 or 3 larger look-alikes, also sold on Amazon. Even those are fairly tiny too. If you want something BIG, go for flowering water hyacinths.--Second, some comments stated a few small snails snuck in with the duckweed. They eat algae off the glass and gravel of aquariums so I don't know why they would be unwelcome. However, there is a simple way to eliminate them if you must. I emptied the bag into a glass bowl full of clean, non-chlorinated, room temp water. Any foreign matter (dirt?) sank to the bottom. I then scooped out a spoonful of duckweed at a time. That made it easy to identify any snails or other tag-alongs as I emptied the spoon into my tank.I do think any complaints are because of a misunderstanding of what the reviewers were buying. And yes, I could have scooped some off a pond, but at this price, it's much easier to purchase the duckweed than to wade through the mud and cold water that might be contaminated with who-knows-what.Five stars all around!
