Like a nice visit
I own 14 of Miss Read’s books so far. I don't know how she does it. Her books are so interesting to me. They are set in a small village in England during a gentler time, perhaps just prior or during WW1. Her books often center around different people in the same village, much like books by Maeve Binchy in Ireland. I think there may be a good audience for these books because their price stays high. I got a deal on this one for my Kindle. It's like spending a pleasant afternoon visiting with a close friend.

Miss Read's least likeable character made human....
I have to admit that the other reviewer is correct, and that this book does string together episodes from some of the other books, so that some of the ground covered is familiar to readers of the series. Since I give her other books five stars, I dock one star for that and rate this one a four. As a lover of her Fairacre series (above even Thrush Green), I have to admit to a soft spot even for this book just because it makes Mrs. Pringle more human and easy to understand. It gives some of her backstory that's not covered elsewhere, in terms of her growing up years and her early married life, that make it somewhat easier to understand the character's gruffness and lack of empathy. It also tells a few stories of her exhibiting a rare soft spot for an underprivileged child, for example. If you've never read Miss Read, this isn't the place to start. But if you've exhausted the rest of the series and still have a craving for more Fairacre, it's definitely better than going without.

When all else palls try Miss Read.
I find this quiet life a soothing balm when politics and religion get me down. It’s not perfection with no pain but it does reflect the supposed national character of just keeping on. There is pain and suffering, hunger and cold, fights and squabbles and sometimes an acceptance that nothing can or will change. But life goes on and so must we. It helps me cope on the bad political news days.

Mrs. Pringle is the village cleaning lady you love to hate.
I am reading my way through this delightful Fairacre series, and from the beginning the character of Mrs. Pringle stands out as my favorite character. Mrs. Pringle is the daily cleaning lady for the Fairacre village school, but she is so much more. She is a moralizer, a gossip, a tale teller and the bane of Miss Read;s, the head school teacher, life. Mrs. Pringle always has something declarative to say on every occasion and always seems to know the village scuttle-butt. She and Miss Read have had many tiffs and more than a few days that were spent in less than companionable silence. This volume of the delightful Fairacre series is dedicated to our favorite anti-hero, Mrs. Pringle. We learn more about her early life, her marriage and her long years in our beloved village of Fairacre. This is one of my favorite books in the series so far.

Miss Read Gives Mrs. Pringle a Soul!
Miss Read gives Mrs. Pringle a soul! In this book we get a much deeper look at Maud Pringle's soft side, a tender side that isn't often seen. She responds to a cold, poverty-stricken child by knitting him mittens. Though she highly disapproves of her mentally-deficient and promiscuous niece, Minnie, Mrs. Pringle helps the young woman and her illegitimate children. And Maud is deeply moved when she hears of the death of an employer who had been very kind to her in her youth. Written with dry, delightful British humor, Miss Read continues to entertain, educate and even move us as we visit the mythical village of Fairacre.

Uplifting reading for whatever ails you
Miss Read’s books are a joy — genuine food for the soul. Village life in rural England day by day, vivid characters experiencing all the ups and downs of being human and trying to get along with each other’s quirks and foibles. There’s lots of humor, difficulties too, and occasional mortality but no violence. Just life as we ordinary folk live it, sympathetically told. Highly recommended.

Heartwarming and simple story. Funny and real!
I chose this rating because it is so rare to find a story both enter-Taining and funny and realistic! It is an old timey kind of book that is timeless. Simply written yet complex.

Well written and authentic early English school life
A fun read, most of us know a Mrs. Pringle! Like Miss Read, we, too, tolerate and make allowances for their bad behavior and mistreatment to us... shame, isn't it?

Looking forward to the world of Mrs Pringle
This is one of my favourite comical characters ever. I love Miss Read books and have been reading them for a good 50 years since I was a teenager. I am looking forward to autumn nights by the fire having a good chuckle. "A tonic for the troops" in these weird times.

A really good buy.
I bought this book because I love Miss Read books. They are so very easy to read and, in a way, make us able to reminisce about times gone by. The book is in beautiful condition and after I have read it, it will remain on my bookshelf. Delivery was fast and on time. No complaints at all.

Mrs Pringle by Miss Read
The book arrived very quickly and was in very good condition. I had wanted to read it as I already had several novels by this author. As to subject matter, the book was not as good as many others in the series because, although it concentrated on one character -the cleaner, Mrs Pringle -it used accounts from various stages of her life which had already appeared en route in the other novels so there was very little fresh material.

Lovely book.
Quite a wait to receive the book but as soon as arrived dived straight in. It is such a lovely book to read as are all Miss Read books. I hadn't read this one before and really enjoyed.
