Q: Do you have to plant this a pot with aquatic soil or just drop it in the pond . I have fish in my pond . Will it be ok with them

Hiya You will need to plant in a pond basket with aquatic soil. Make sure you put some material in first such as piece of hesian frabic which allows the water to come through slowly and soak the soil (which you put in after the fabric) . Plant the Lilly and soak well overnight. Then put it in shallow part of the pond and ideally cover it with pond netting to stop the fish from chewing it! They are partial to Lilley's while they grow but once established they won't bother with them. Good luck...worth the initial trouble getting it right! Hope this helped Regards Peter

Definitely, our first flower this year is just coming out so it wintered ok not showy like a lily but keeps on flowering through the year.

No, it's a deep water aquatic plant that needs to be planted deep enough under water for the rhizome to be frost free. It might survive in a bucket of water in an unheated greenhouse but it won't look up to much as a gift as the leaves tend to die right back Why not buy a gift voucher from a company that sells coldwater aquatic plants?
