Best book on painting I own!
This is really the best book I own on painting now. Lea Wight's paintings are amazing and she is able to articulate what she is thinking about during her process really well. The section on how she approaches color is worth the price of the book itself. The text complements all the images well and I've picked up lots and lots of great tips. Also, the paintings are just fun to look at. Wight's brush handling and color choices are just really impressive. She brings it all together and that's rare. I open the book and just want to paint! Well worth the price!

WASTE PF MONEY UNLESS YOU PAINT PORTRAITS
Unless you paint portraits this book has very little to say about Still LIFE or Landscape. The book is mostly about portraits. There are much better books to be hand on Still Life and Landscape. It is a waste of money unless you do portraits.

Not bad
Generally the book is not bad, but if you are a beginner there is not enough information

Foundations.
Returning to oil painting, looks like a good review of the process but assumes strong drawing skills and familiarity with materials.

Some basic, foundational principles of painting
This book covered some basic, foundational principles behind painting that can be used to create still lifes, landscapes, and portraits. The author worked in oils, but the focus was more on the principles than specifically how to paint using oils. Also, she talked a lot about painting live scenes and how to work with models or changing light for stills and landscapes. She first explained value and composition. She briefly covered anatomy and how to use it to draw people accurately. She also talked about three basic steps to get the proportions right and the values on the objects correct. She then talked about a way to add color to the scene so that the colors are accurate and so you don't gray out colors that need to be vibrant. She ended with some step-by-step demonstrations on how to do this entire process for figures, portraits, landscapes, and still lifes. I would recommend this book to painters who have trouble with these basics.I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley.

Excellent, well illustrated, book
What you get here is basically a summary of the course taught at Studio Incamminati, an art school in Philadelphia set up by the late Nelson Shanks where Colie Wight teaches. Apart from giving excellent instruction, I find the superb illustrations in the book inspire me to get painting. Definitely well worth buying.

Deveria ter outro título
Regular.
