More than a pretty face
When I agreed to test and review this battery I was expecting a mediocre backup that emphasized aesthetics over performance. I was wrong - the review sample that I received performed as well as any other fast battery I have tested.My main benchmark is the charging rate of my Galaxy Note 3 on a fast wall charger. For that the Note 3's 3300mAh battery charges at 1% per 2.5 minutes. On this battery it came very close at 1% per 2:50 minutes:seconds. That alone earns it five stars as far as I am concerned. There are other features that also set it apart. First, the body is rubber or silicone. You can drop this battery and - depending on the surface - not harm it. Most other batteries are plastic, metal or a combination and are easily cracked or dented if you drop them on a hard surface.I do want to point out that while this battery does in fact store 5000mAh of back-up power, the effective power is 3500mAh. All batteries based on this technology have this disparity between rated and useable power because 16% is lost from heat and conversion and another 14% is lost in cable inefficiencies. Still, the 3500mAh is more than the capacity of my Note 3's battery, so this battery more than doubles my use time and does so in a relatively small form factor.Bottom line: if there is a design or color pattern among the ones offered that you like that is icing. The real cake is the performance and price, and both of those are impressive.
