Meaning, Autonomy, Growth, Impact, and Connection (MAGIC)
I really like how Dr. Maylett encapsulates the concept of organizational behavior into an easily digested manner. The examples are very clear, and the concepts are broad enough to apply to any organization. What I really got out of the book was the importance of employee engagement. If you are an employer, employee, or know someone who is, then I recommend that you study this book. From the examples given in the book, and the extra research that Dr. Maylett inspired me to conduct beyond my reading, I've really become convinced that improving employee engagement will drive overall organizational effectiveness. When I say organizational effectiveness, I mean both financial success and the way that the financial success is achieved. When an organization puts effort into making their workplace a good place to work, employees are going to put their heart, mind, and energy into making the organization successful. This directly allows the organization to go about their purpose in the way that they want to; which is a big part of what it means to be an effective organization.I would also say that this book promotes introspection as to one's own level of engagement. As I read about each of the 5 points in 'Engagement MAGIC', I asked myself how I was doing in each of the 5 areas. In the book you'll read about how the responsibility of engagement is a 50-50% split between employers and employees. This book made me analyze how well I was delivering on my part of my own engagement at work, and allowed me to make plans for how to improve. I have been improving in my employee engagement, which has been bringing me success both on my projects and in my relationships at work!Overall, I highly recommend! I hope you enjoy this book!

Informative, sometimes slow pacing
Solid read, if you're looking for a book about how to be engaged or help your employees be engaged this is a great choice. Dr. Maylett does a great job breaking down each concept and giving examples and criteria for engagement, and what does and doesn't really work. Only reason I'm giving four stars is because sometimes the pacing is slow in the sense that too much space is used to explain something that could have been more condensed, but overall it reads well.

MUST READ for leaders and employees trying to build an engaged workforce or impactful career
Anyone trying to having a meaningful career or trying to build a meaningful employee experience MUST READ this book! The concept of MAGIC (Meaning, Autonomy, Growth, Impact, Connection) is an excellent one to keep in mind for both managers to help employees become engaged, but also for employees to help themselves identify how they can become more engaged. Personally, as I read I felt that I was lacking meaning and impact at my job, so I have tried since to apply the lessons in the book to become a much more engaged employee. Finding meaning again at work helped me feel more satisfaction in my work and increased my productivity and impact.

Defined my work core values!
This book provided a very insightful take on organizational behavior. It helped me view my current and future work experiences as a source of growth, not just a source of income. Maylett’s MAGIC acronym- Meaning, Autonomy, Growth, Impact, Connection- indicates what employers and employees can do to make work engaging. I personally connected with the Meaning and Growth chapters, which have become core values in what I need to enjoy and progress at work. A great read!

One of the most data driven approaches to engagement that can be found
So, haha, this book was actually better than I thought. I was impressed with the vast amount of legitimate data used to not just to support claims, but as the foundation for the fundamental concepts of Meaning, Autonomy, Growth, Impact and Connection that make up the book MAGIC. The raw data is amazing and I think is the defining characteristic that sets it apart from the majority of the books in this genre which are sadly too often just a list pf personal ideas mixed with some truth principles and then pawned off as the next great business idea, this book is timeless and although at some point there may be another more complete book to surpass it, I haven't read it yet. Definitely worth the read. I have interacted with Dr. Maylett personally and know that he is genuine and sincere and makes a big difference in the lives of the corporations and individuals that he works with at all levels.

Good Info. Redundant.
Overall, the book has good information and helpful guidance through case studies, however, some information is repeated chapter after chapter. For example, the namesake, MAGIC, stands for Meaning, Autonomy, Growth, Impact, and Connection. The breakdown of these different topics is in-depth and helpful in understanding what helps to make an employee engaged. However, after they have been mentioned for 6 chapters straight, they begin to lose their magic (pardon the pun).

Learn to Engage Others
Engagement Magic by Tracy Maylett is an excellent book that offers a fresh perspective on employee engagement. Maylett's "Magic 5" model for engagement, which focuses on meaningful work, supportive management, a positive work environment, growth opportunities, and trust in leadership, is both simple and effective. What sets this book apart, however, is the practical advice it offers for implementing the Magic 5 model. The book includes a variety of tools and resources, such as assessment tools, action plans, and case studies, that make it easy to put Maylett's ideas into practice. Overall, I highly recommend Engagement Magic to anyone interested in improving employee engagement and creating a more productive and positive workplace.
