Well made and works well
As soon as I opened the bag I used this cable to connect my FT3D to an Anker battery pak. It charged in a reasonable amount of time. [This is for charging only - the directions state DO NOT operate the radio while charging with this cable. ] This is just what I wanted - another charging option that does not require the factory Yaesu tabletop charger or house current altogether. The USB A gives me a lot more charging options for a radio with a wimpy battery.

Yaesu FT65R Alternate Charging
The Yaesu FT65R doesn’t come with a charging port directly on the radio and I have been searching for an alternative way to charge my radio for those times when I may not have access to an AC power source. This product gives me just such a method although the original charging cradle is still needed. The provided cable simply plugs in to the original manufacturing cable without the supplied adapter that is included in the packaging. I checked both the polarity and voltage against the original and they were within nominal specs (~11.8v). With a good USB power source this should be able to charge the radio similarly to the original AC adapter. Great product that helps me stay on the air when I am off grid.

Does Not Fit On The Yaesu FT-70DR handy talkie radio UPDATED
The item produces a clean 12VDC output with a 5VDC input. The center of the barrel barrel is the positive terminal but the plug does not fit into Yaesu FT-70DR as advertised. The barrel plug should be .16 inches in diameter like the pictured barrel plug with the yellow tip on the right instead of .21 inches in diameter like the pictured barrel plug with the black tip on the left. It is possible I was shipped the wrong unit but the unit came with no documentation so yo don’t really know what you got. I will keep the unit because the effort to return it exceeds the value of the item. While the product seems to be ok, I gave it only a one star because of the deceptive advertising, lack of technical details and lack of documentation.Update: After some investigation it was determined that the unit I received did not include the right angle adapter to change to the Yaesu FT-70DR .16” diameter barrel plug. I returned the incorrect item and had it replaced with the correct item. I have changed the star rating of my review to five stars.

Flexability for FT-5DR
When you're not near a 12v plug-in outlet. Or you forgot your drop in charger.Works as described. Most newer cars have USB's now.

Great when paired with a solar panel
I have a Yeasu FT-3DR HT radio. I picked up a RAVPower 16w solar panel and use it with this cable to charge my battery for my radio. I also use it to charge a power pack. The radio battery takes a long time to charge when plugged into power, so this isn't any quicker, but it works when you're away from power. I actually find it's better to charge a power pack (also from RAVPower) while out and about during the day, then charge the radio battery while you sleep off the power pack. A very handy cable to have when a plug isn't available. I never camp without it.

Actually seems to work
Was hesitant to get this for my ft3d but it actually charged it up and not super duper slow like I thought it would. The tip comes off so you have to be careful not to loose it but I guess if you have other tips that would fit you would have a 12v charger for something small.

Just what I was looking for
I was looking for a way to power my Yaesu FT2D hand held radio when out in the field where there is no electricity and just a battery that came with it.With this I can run my radio using a USB port. It will even run it without the battery being connected.
